Since its reveal, many have wondered how Black Ops 4’s upcoming ‘Blackout’ mode would stand up against the likes of Fortnite, which has become, by far, the most popular game in the battle royale genre.
While many are not expecting Blackout to challenge Fortnite any time soon, some believe that there are things Treyarch can do for their game to at least keep up.
100 Thieves CEO and former CoD pro player Matt ‘Nadeshot’ Haag thinks that Treyarch’s tallest and most important task will be to adapt to the player-base.
This is Call of Duty Battle Royale.
I think Treyarch’s biggest challenge will be adaptation. With how often Epic has changed their map with new points of interests and in-game content, I feel like they’ve set a wildly high precedent for Battle Royale.
I hope CoD can keep up.
As Nadeshot alludes to in his tweet, Epic Games has consistently added new content, made fundamental changes, and quick-fire adjustments to Fortnite in order to keep the gaming experience fun and fresh.
This has allowed them to set a high precedent that no other battle royale game has even come close to matching thus far.

It will undoubtedly be difficult for Treyarch to bring Blackout to the standards the battle royale community has come to expect, especially since this will be the first BR game in Call of Duty history.
Their best bet may be to consistently pump new content into the game and make changes based on the feedback their receive from the player-base.
Blackout will be released on October 12 as part of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Players can try the mode out early in the Private Beta that will start on September 10 for the PS4 and September 14 for the Xbox One and PC.
