New information has been revealed as to how weapon rarities will work in CoD: Black Ops 4’s upcoming ‘Blackout’ battle royale mode.
GameInformer, who have been given early access to try out Blackout, have mentioned that the mode will feature Special Chests taht will give players Gold Guns.
These Gold Guns will be modified versions of the standard weapons that will be in Blackout and will be equipped with special attachments and enhancements.
One gold variant that has been confirmed is the gold Titan LMG, which the testers at GameInformer said they received from a Special Chest in the Estates location of the map.
However, an important note about these Special Chests is that they do not spawn in every game, and their rate of spawn is random. However, their locations, if they do spawn in, are consistent and do not change.
Interestingly enough, Treyarch’s Studio Design Director, David Vonderhaar, gave an interview about Blackout in which he specifically mentioned that rarity variation would not be in the mode as “it makes the rest of the game confusing.”

However, this directly contradicts the fact that there are Gold variants of weapons in Blackout, although that can still be removed since the game is in its beta phase.
