The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Grand Finals of CEO 2019 were so unbelievably close that the casters just didn’t know what to do or say.
Smash Bros. Ultimate can be one of the most casual fighting games out there but it also has a deeply competitive background with a rabid fanbase.
With pretty much every fighter under the sun included here, there are numerous different tactics and a surprisingly high skill ceiling. When you get two of the best pros together, there’s a lot that can happen.
During the Grand Finals of CEO 2019, the two finalists – MkLeo and Marss – were each so close to elimination that the casters kept saying the game was over, except each player refused to go down.
They were left dumbfounded by what was going on and had no explanation to what was happening. The two casters called the fight finished several times but the players just wouldn’t give up.
In fact, Marss, playing as Captain Falcon, was able to even come back from his huge hole and win the round over Leo, playing as Joker, before eventually being eliminated in the tournament 3-1.
If you take a look at the replay yourself you’ll be just as confused and in awe as the casters were.

CEO wasn’t just video game fighting
However, this amazing Smash moment might not be what people remember when they look back at this competition.
Fist fights and racial slurs were reported at the event by some of the players themselves and they say security wasn’t even there to help diffuse the situation.
Literally a fight broke out no one did anything. No security. then a to got involved and then they started fighting and then it took my mom go find 1 person to help. A lot of people in the venue are drunk, and high calling out players causing problems. i wanna leave

Fighting games are some of the most competitive games out there and emotions do run high. However, that’s no excuse for actually hitting anyone, but some good trash talk after the match is fine.
It remains to be seen if any players involved in the Smash Bros. incident will be barred from future events.
