Overwatch Archives 2020 skins are packed with hilarious Easter Eggs

Blizzard Entertainment

Overwatch’s 2020 Archives event didn’t bring a new story mission for players, but it does add eight new skins to collect that are filled with all kinds of Easter Eggs.

Brigitte’s “Katt” animation, which is one of the few Legendary emotes available in the game, finally adds Jetpack Cat who players were convinced at one time would be an upcoming hero to Overwatch after all these years.

This could mean that Jetpack Cat won’t be one of the new heroes we see in OW2 since player’s emotes will be transferred over according to Blizzard. But you never know, since developers obviously had to spend some time rendering the adorable furball.

Pharah is next on our list with an Easter Egg that pays homage to her backstory, which fans haven’t really gotten much lore for since Overwatch was released in 2016.

Scattered around Pharah’s armor is red and white crests with “The Arab Republic of Egypt” written in Arabic underneath, which confirms the hero was in the Egyptian Air Force, something that was always suspected by players but never outright confirmed by Blizzard.

Finally we come to Junkrat, who’s “King Jamison” skin is filled with just as many Easter Eggs and jokes as there is treasure in the bag on his back.

In his sack of loot is one particularly interesting piece of booty, a silver shield with the Crest of Lordaeron on it from the lore of Warcraft, another Blizzard franchise. Credit goes to Overwatch tinkerer Owlero for discovering this one, how they managed to find it though, is unknown.

Junkrat’s treasure bag also brings an in-game interaction he’s had with Hanzo for years full circle in one of the funniest ways possible.

Before some matches, where Hanzo and Junkrat are both on the field, Hanzo pop the question “Where did you hide your treasure? You could hardly have it on your person.”

“Treasure? Uh, sure I don’t know anything you’re talking about,” the Aussie replies. With any other Junkrat skin it seems like a random conversation, but with King Jamison, the whole back and forth turns into a pretty good gag.

Players have until April 2 to collect all of the new Overwatch skins for Archives 2020 and the Easter Eggs that come with them, but if you don’t get all the skins you want – don’t worry.

Overwatch’s Anniversary event usually begins sometime in May, and it gives players the opportunity to unlock any skin, emote, or cosmetic from past events, which would include this year’s Archives too.
