Summoner’s Rift, the home of League of Legends, will be getting a large-scale update in season ten, with dynamic terrain, new bushes and alcoves, and changes to top lane, jungle, and support.
While previous pre-seasons have brought major reworks to runes, champion types, and neutral objectives in League of Legends, Season Ten is bringing on a massive change for Summoner’s Rift itself.
For the first time in League, there will be dynamic terrain, changing when certain neutral objectives are slain, while overhauls to items and experience are also on the cards.
The biggest change of all is the introduction of the Rise of the Elements system. Elemental drakes were first introduced in season six, giving the bottom side of the map a more meaningful objective to fight over.
It also added some dynamic gameplay to League, with the spawning of drakes forever changing, meaning teams had to adapt strategies depending on the type of dragon spawning.
Now, slaying elemental drakes will alter the map for the rest of the game, depending on the type of dragon taken down.
The Infernal Rift will destroy terrain on the map, opening up new pathways for flanking and movement across the map.
The Ocean Rift will make existing bushes on Summoner’s Rift larger, as well as allow Honeyfruits to spawn in more locations around the jungle.
The Cloud Rift will spawn currents throughout the jungle, which grant users movement speed when they pass through them. This is similar to the shrines that used to exist on the Crystal Scar.
Finally, the Mountainous Rift will create new terrain across the Rift. This won’t rebuild any terrain destroyed by the Infernal Rift, but it can spawn over extended Ocean Rift bushes.
On top of these changes, most of the elemental buffs will be getting changed up.

The Cloud Drake will no longer give movement speed, but will reduce the cooldown of your ultimate with every stack. Mountain drake will also no longer increase team’s ability to siege down objectives, and will grant a percentage increase of defensive stats instead.
If a team takes down four dragons in a game, they’ll also gain a Dragon’s Soul, based on the dragons they’ve primarily slain.
- Infernal Dragon Soul: Every three seconds, the next attack or damaging spell creates a small AoE explosion, dealing adaptive damage that scales with bonus attack damage, ability power, and bonus health.
- Ocean Dragon Soul: Dealing any damage triggers strong health and resource regeneration for 3 seconds. Damage to minions provides less regeneration.
- Cloud Dragon Soul: Hitting enemies with abilities or attacks lowers the cooldowns of base abilities.
- Mountain Dragon Soul: After not taking damage for five seconds, gain a shield that lasts until destroyed. The shield’s magnitude scales with bonus attack damage, ability power, and bonus health.
The Elder Dragon will only spawn after a Dragon Soul is claimed, but in return, will be a lot more powerful. The Elder Dragon buff will now allow players to use Elder Immoluation to execute enemies below a certain health threshold. The execute can be stopped by items like Zhonya’s Hourglass, but can be used multiple times across the Elder buff duration.
Summoner’s Rift will also be getting a bit of a facelift in the side lanes and jungle. Little alcoves will be added to the corners of the map, meaning there are now more places to juke around at the edges of the map.
New brushes will be added in the jungle around the Baron and Dragon pits, around each team’s blue buff. This is on top of changes to jungle experience to help junglers add some diversity to their paths.

Krugs will now give less XP, Gromp will give more, and respawn icons will be added for all camps on the minimap, meaning junglers will have an easier time tracking their timings.
Support items will also be getting some minor changes. Supports will no longer need to recall to get each individual upgrade, while there will be four different variations of starter items. The Ancient Coin line is getting removed, and there will be a share of offensive (Spellthief’s) and defensive (Targon’s) options.
To cap it all off, there’ll be some changes to how champions gain experience. XP sharing between laners is going to be nerfed, while the overall experience earned off minions will go up for solo laners.
