A campaign launched by players made the hashtag #Persona3Remake trend on Twitter on January 31. Here is why gamers are begging Japanese developer Atlus to remake the 2006 released JRPG.
Persona 3 originally released on Sony’s PlayStation 2 back in 2006. The popular games are a spin-off series of the Shin Megami Tensei JRPG titles in Japan, with more of an emphasis on character relationships called social links.
The franchise has exploded in popularity in recent years, with Persona 5 releasing in 2016 to wide critical acclaim. Because of the series’ newfound popularity, fans are now asking developer Atlus to turn to the past and bring back the third title.
Why Persona 3 Remake is trending on Twitter
On January 31 #Persona3Remake began trending on Twitter, as fans of the series started to plead with the Japanese devs to remake the PS2-era title with the latest engine developed for Persona 5.
The entire tweet frenzy was kicked off by a post by user named ‘stayketchy’ who cleverly posted a screenshot from the game. In it, character Ryoji Mochizuki states the date “January 31st, 2020.”
Along with the photo, the fan wrote, “THIS IS THE ONLY DAY YOU CAN RT THIS #Persona3Remake,” which sparked others to retweet the account at a rapid pace. At the time of this article, the tweet has 7.4k likes and 6.2k retweets.

Fans of the series then began to use the trending movement to show the Japanese developer that there is a great demand for a re-imagined version of the Sony released title.
Users also shared their own ideas for a potential remake, such as ‘Female_Ren’ who exclaimed “I’d LOVE to see a remake of Persona 3! Imagine how amazing it would be to add party control, the female protagonist route, and fast travel to the game.”

Posting a picture of Persona 5’s DLC skins which turns players into 3’s cast, ‘JohnnyLockson’ said, “So #Persona3Remake is trending?! I would be so hype for a remake! Give me what I want Atlus!” The tweet got 970 likes at time of writing, proving fans want the game with the updated engine.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Atlus has done a re-release for the beloved franchise – in 2012, Persona 4 got an improved version on Sony’s handheld console PS Vita. It included major overhauls and was packed with added features.
The Japanese developer is currently gearing up to release Persona 5 Royal Edition in North America on March 31, and spin-off game Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers which will bring the Phantom Thieves to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in 2020.
