3 games that need to be remastered for the PS5

Sony’s hugely anticipated next generation console may still be over a year from release, supposedly, but that isn’t going to stop us at looking at three games the PS5 should remaster.

GTA 5

The latest GTA game may well go down as the most popular game of all time. Released in 2013, GTA V is still played by millions of people today.

If it is still so popular now, even six years after its release, it begs the question why does it need to be remastered? While PC players can enjoy Los Santos in 4K and silky smooth frame rates, their console counterparts don’t have such luxury.

Rockstar GamesGTA V has had an incredible life span…

The game runs at a measly 30 frames a second, which is becoming increasingly frustrating for gaming in 2019. The same applies to the newer versions of current consoles – the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X – where even with their increased power, they still run at 30 FPS. Whether these upgraded consoles could increase this limit is an entirely different story.

PC players are also able to add their own mods to the game, only increasing the visual quality of the game further. Surely Sony could strike a deal with Rockstar and give console players the GTA V game they deserve.

We know next gen consoles will be capable and, according to Steam Charts, GTA 5 still reaches more than 100,000 concurrent players. That’s on PC only and while we don’t have the numbers for console, we can assume this more than doubles for overall play.

PUBG

Those who have played PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on console will know that the battle royale game is the most enthralling yet frustrating game. Enthralling because of the concept and purity of the gameplay and frustrating because of how poorly it runs.

There’s a feeling among the PUBG community that if the game ran as it should, then it could be even bigger than it is now. Unfortunately poor responsiveness (just move the right analog and then compare it to Call of Duty games) and a 30 FPS rate, at best, has alienated a lot of potential players.

Most battle royale games offer just one map – think Fortnite, Apex Legends, etc – yet PUBG offers four maps which all bring something to the table. If the PUBG development team could get it running optimally on console, then that is a lot of game for the money.

The PS5 presents the opportunity to just that and fortunately there is already a credible leak that suggests it may arrive on the PlayStation 5 at launch.

Skyrim

Skyrim is revered by fans of the Elder Scrolls games. It might be single player only but that hasn’t stopped it from captivating those who love role playing games.

However, current console hardware isn’t enough to power the massively open world game. The game is still plagued with performance issues and only consistently hits the basic 30 FPS mark on the Xbox One X. The PS4 Pro falls to 27 to 29 on a regular basis.

The PS5 should be more than capable of playing the game in native 4K while hitting that much desired 60 FPS. Perhaps this would be a welcome precursor for when Elder Scrolls 6 is eventually released.
