The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018 and the game is still years away, so here is everything we know about the upcoming installment before its release.

The Bethesda fanbase exploded into excitement when a first-look reveal trailer for Elder Scrolls 6 was revealed in June 2018. The footage gave them a glimpse of the mountain range where the next game would be set.

However, while the first trailer usually starts a domino effect of announcements for video game projects – particularly of the size of Elder Scrolls 6 – developers surprised many people by keeping their cards to their chest in the years following the game’s initial reveal and information is still scarce.

Do we know when The Elder Scrolls 6 is coming out?

There is still no clear release window for Elder Scrolls 6. However, Bethesda confirmed in March 2024 that “early builds” for the game were being tested internally and that development is well and truly underway.

In April 2024, Todd Howard provided insight into why they are not revealing too much about Elder Scrolls 6.

He said, “I’m going to avoid putting dates on anything. I’ve learned that the hard way. So obviously, our focus as far as new development right now is Elder Scrolls VI, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not making plans for other things.”

While it has yet to be confirmed, many have speculated that Elder Scrolls 6 will be released in 2026. We’ll be sure to update this section when we know more.

Will the game be an Xbox exclusive?

In 2023, Microsoft officially completed its acquisition of Bethesda Studios, which meant that all things Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Starfield would fall under the Xbox banner.

One of the biggest questions gamers have is whether Elder Scrolls 6 will now be an Xbox-exclusive title. We can now confirm that, yes, it will be a Microsoft exclusive and, therefore, will only be released on Xbox consoles and PC. Sorry, Sony fans.

Elder Scrolls 6 setting predictions

Although Bethesda and Todd Howard have not revealed much about the new game, fans have been speculating on its location and setting. On January 1, 2021, The Elder Scrolls X account (formerly Twitter) uploaded a post to wish their fans a happy new year.

Furthermore, they captioned the post, “Transcribe the past and map the future.”

Eagle-eyed fans noticed the candles around the map, which could be a clue to the franchise’s next location. While one candle is placed directly on Skyrim, another is located to the southwest, right by the label for Hammerfell.

This, coupled with more sleuthing, has fans predicting the game will be set in the home of the Redguards.

Are there any trailers for the game?

Other than the announcement trailer Bethesda dropped in 2018, there are no new clips or any more footage for Elder Scrolls 6.
