PewDiePie reveals why he thinks Sonic the Hedgehog is cursed

YouTube star Felix ‘PewDiePie‘ Kjellberg believes Sonic can never be good again and that the character is cursed, citing concerns of the franchise’s quality spanning the last decade and beyond.

Sonic the Hedgehog was once a direct competitor to Nintendo’s Mario franchise but has largely fallen off a cliff while Mario has remained popular, despite a few bumps in the road.

The quality of the Sonic franchise seems to have peaked around the Dreamcast era and has been struggling the recapture that magic, nearly 20 years later.

PewDiePie thinks there’s no hope

There’s not a lot of reason to suspect the upcoming Sonic movie will be good if prior video game movie adaptations are anything to go by.

Sonic’s initial appearance was blasted by fans online, leading Paramount Studios to announce a complete redo was on the way, but PewDiePie doesn’t sound optimistic. This isn’t his first time making fun of the new Sonic movie either.

“You don’t understand, Sonic is cursed,” he says. “This is the best they can do, they had a team of experts and this is the best they can do.”

He does have a point as there’s a ton of different ways they could’ve gone with Sonic’s design, his video even shows some of the fan edits that look lightyears better than what the movie currently has.

“Sonic has suffered too long,” PewDiePie explains. “Sonic is already dead and there is nothing that can bring him back at this point.”

While Sonic is receiving some design changes, it probably won’t change the fact that the movie just probably won’t be very good to begin with.

With there arguably being just one good Sonic game this decade in Sonic Mania, it’s clear there’s not much Sonic goodwill left in the world.

There’s always a chance it could be good so while we could reserve judgment until the movie releases, there’s just not a lot of reason to have hope right now.
