Studio Ghibli cosplayer readies for battle as fierce Princess Mononoke

Studio Ghibli’s Princess Mononoke was brought to life by a cosplayer’s detailed outfit. The talented artist became the anime heroine with her jaw dropping re-creation. 

The groundbreaking anime released in 1997, and was iconic director Hayao Miyazaki’s seventh feature-length film. The story’s focus on fantasy and environmentalism has resonated with audiences for decades.

A skilled cosplayer has shared her true-to-life take on the movie’s wolf princess, and will be sure to delight Ghibli fans as it’s one of the most realistic portrayals of the character you will ever see.

Cosplayer readies for battle as Princess Mononoke 

The story follows prince Ashitaka, who after getting cursed, stumbles upon an epic battle between the animal gods of a forest and the humans destroying it. He soon finds himself involved in the skirmish after meeting San – a girl who was raised by wolves.

Cosplayer ‘satiellacosplay‘ showed off her stunning take on social media, and became the film’s heroine with an insanely detailed costume. Pulling back the character’s iconic red, white and gold clay mask, she readies to attack her foes.

The Dutch creator’s outfit is full of detail, from the fur line wrist guards, to the cape that drapes behind her shoulders. She collaborated with photographer Martijn Kolen to capture it all, as her pose could have been a scene from the film itself.

The talented artist uploaded more pictures of her outfit, giving viewers a full view of the amount of work that went into creating the “wild” girl’s apparel. Satiella credits prolific cosplayer Jessica Nigri for inspiring the design of the costume.

In another shot by ‘schmelzertobias‘, she gives us a close up look of her Princess Mononoke mask. The detail and accuracy of the item is so good, it could pass for an official prop from the film if it ever gets a live-action version.

Satiella nails the wolf princess’s signature red warrior makeup, and even included little blood stains on her face and stomach, tying the whole outfit together with a battle-worn look.

Princess Mononoke’s darker style and tone was quite the departure for Studio Ghibli, but its legacy as one of the most important animes of all time has grown since its release in the 90s.

The film was also a box office smash hit, and is ranked the seventh highest grossing film of all time in Japan. The movie’s themes about environmentalism has made it continue to be relevant even today.
