Clint ‘Maven’ Evans believes that OpTic Gaming still has a strong chance of winning the 2018 Call of Duty World Championship if the players can get over their issues in Search and Destroy matches, specifically in game five situations.
The CWL and MLG commentator spoke about the defending world champions during MLG’s “OpTic Gaming: Defending the Wall” preview video, saying “my only concern really is when you talk Search and Destroy”.
Maven goes on to say “specifically like clutch moments. They’re not great in the game fives, they’ve been really poor in round 11 type situations. If they can fix that, they’re in a great spot”.
OpTic Gaming’s Call of Duty: WWII season has been a series of disappointments and subpar results for a team that was on top of the world for the previous three years.

One of the biggest issues for the team, even after swapping Matthew ‘FormaL’ Piper and Damon ‘Karma’ Barlow for Sam ‘Octane’ Larew and Anthony ‘Methodz’ Zinni, has been Search and Destroy.
While still being a relatively strong team in respawn modes, OpTic’s inability to close out Search and Destroy matches, even with huge advantages, has seen the team fall short at numerous competitions.
With the 2018 World Championship being the last event of the year, the 2017 winners look less likely than ever before to hold on to the title.
However, as Maven points out, a few tweaks in S&D may well be all that is needed to transform OpTic Gaming back into a team to be feared.
