Nadeshot’s First Look at What Competitive Play Could be Like in Black Ops 4

Matt “Nadeshot” Haag put plenty of hours into the Black Ops 4 multiplayer beta in August, and has uploaded one of his gameplays which he says provides a glimpse into what competitive could be like in the new game.

As a former professional CoD player, Nadeshot is as experienced and knowledgable as anyone on the intricacies of competitive play, and what a CoD game needs to excel in this area.

With so many changes to the fundamentals of Call of Duty with Black Ops 4 (manual healing, specialists, increased health, 5v5 public matches etc.), the competitive community is scrutinising the new title heavily.

5v5 has perhaps been the most debated topic. With competitive play typically 4v4, rumors have been emerging that 5v5 may be a compromise to not only better suit the game, but help attract more casual players to competitive.

Because of course the beta was purely public matches, Nadeshot’s gameplay is 5v5 by default, in a standard match of hardpoint with everything permitted, against another party of five players.

As Nadeshot says both teams were trying super hard, which provides a glimpse into how competitive would be played also.

Nadeshot’s team consisted of other former pros Damon “Karma” Barlow and Anthony “NAMELESS” Wheeler, as well as ex-caster Jack “CouRage” Dunlop and OpTic Gaming member Austin “Pamaj” Pamajewon.

The match is certainly fast-paced, but not necessarily chaotic. There seemed to always be engagements and a lot of individual plays, but the teamwork was definitely on show as well.

When considering arguments for and against 5v5, there is little here at this early stage that would suggest it would be a disastrous shift, at least in terms of pure gameplay.

However there is more to be considered than just gameplay alone, as logistics around rulesets, team formations and more must be taken into account.

Regardless, this glimpse into competitive hardpoint in Black Ops 4 is a good indication as to what we could expect when the full game launches on October 12.
