A major change to how Body Shields, or commonly referred to as armor, work in Apex Legends has been found and leaked by prominent dataminer That1MiningGuy.
As with almost every other battle royale game, armor plays a huge role in Apex Legends and is one of the most important items that players pick up and use.
There are four different tiers of Body Shields in the game – Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary – each absorbing an increased amount of damage and the last one even providing an additional perk.

Currently, there is no way to know what level of armor an enemy player has equipped without engaging them in combat, at which point the hitmarkers will glow in the color of their armor (gray for Common, blue for Rare, purple for Epic, and gold for Legendary).

However, according to new files discovered by well-established Apex dataminer That1MiningGuy, that could all change soon.

Major change to Body Shields leaked
On December 16, That1MiningGuy tweeted out a screenshot of some back-end game files he had found suggesting that a visual indicator will be added that shows what color, and thus tier, of armor each player has on at any given time.
“This appears to be something about adding a visual indicator to characters to tell us what armor level they are wearing BEFORE we shoot them,” he tweeted.

“Most battle royales have this already because of how they work. Would make strategic decisions better.”
When I say 'most brs have this' it's because you have base character models and they pick up diff armor which has different models that get applied to the characters. It's subtle but important.

It goes without saying that this would be a deeply fundamental change to Apex Legends and the strategy that goes into deciding whether or not to challenge an enemy player or team.
For example, if you see a team with Common and Rare tier Body Shields equipped while you and your squad have Epic or Legendary ones, then it might be worth taking the fight.

Conversely, you might be inclined to avoid engaging an enemy team if they have higher level armor than your squad does.
Either way, this would definitely change things up and add a new dimension of tactics that currently aren’t there, since there’s no way of telling what kind of armor any opposing player has on until shooting at them.
