Damian Priest’s next opponent: Who is coming for the World Heavyweight title?

Damian Priest successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship at Backlash, but which WWE superstar is next in line for a title shot?

Priest won the belt at WrestleMania 40 after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase, cementing his status as a main-event player on Monday Night Raw.

As such, the Judgement Day leader faced no shortage of challengers in the aftermath, including a slew of former champions calling for a shot at the belt.

Priest will battle Rey Mysterio next, as the ‘LWO,’ led by Mysterio, has been a continuous thorn in the side of the champion and his faction.

The two men have shared the ring four times in their WWE careers, with each one winning two of the matchups. On the June 3 episode of Raw, either Priest or Mysterio will pull ahead.

However, although Mysterio is next up for Priest, the World Heavyweight title won’t be on the line during their matchup.

Instead, WWE COO Paul’ Triple H’ Levesque confirmed who the next challenger will be for Priest’s belt, and he even revealed where the match will take place.

Damian Priest’s next fight: A clash with Drew McIntyre

As wrestling fans know, Priest cashed in his briefcase in April and stole Drew McIntyre’s WrestleMania moment.

‘The Scottish Psychopath’ won the World Heavyweight Championship from Seth Rollins after Rollins held it every day since its reintroduction to the WWE.

Although McIntyre quickly dispatched an injured Rollins at WrestleMania 40, long-time rival CM Punk distracted him following the match.

That led to Priest storming down the entrance ramp and taking advantage of the moment by cashing in his title shot. And just like that, McIntyre’s reign was over.

Now, with McIntyre cleared from a nagging injury, he’s getting a shot at avenging that shocking loss. And he gets to do it in familiar territory.

The June 15 Clash at the Castle PLE takes place in Glasgow, Scotland — the home country of McIntyre.

Both Priest and ‘The Scottish Warrior’ traded verbal blows while McIntyre was sidelined with injury, but all of that talk goes by the wayside for their championship bout.

Priest handled Jey Uso in his first title defense at Backlash, but McIntyre is a former world champion, and he presents a drastic step up in competition.

And that’s without factoring in the boost he’ll get from fighting in front of a passionate Scottish crowd. Simply put, Priest is crossing enemy lines on June 15.

While it appears to be an uphill climb for the champion, he’s not shying away from the spotlight. Instead, the 41-year-old is embracing it.

Priest has a chance to silence the doubters who have been chirping about his World Heavyweight Championship reign and calling it a farce — including McIntyre himself.

All cards are on the table at the Clash of the Castle, but first, Priest plans on taking care of the ‘LWO’ problem by defeating Rey Mysterio on the June 3 episode of Raw.
