VCT Pacific team Gen.G has announced that it is overhauling its Valorant roster after a disappointing 2023 season, parting ways with five players and two coaches.

The South Korean organization announced on September 8 that it has cut ties with players Yeom ‘eKo’ Wang-ryong, Lee ‘k1Ng’ Seung-won, Yu ‘TS’ Tae-seok, Ko ‘Sylvan’ Young-sub, and Kim ‘GodDead’ Sung-sin, as well as with coaching duo Chris ‘Elmapuddy’ Tebbit and Lee ‘bail’ Sung-jae, as it looks to start afresh in 2024.

Gen.G will build the team for next year around Kim ‘Meteor’ Tae-O, the sole remaining member from the 2023 lineup. The Korean duelist was the only player on the team with a contract beyond the end of this year.

The announcement comes after a disappointing debut season in Asia for Gen.G, which dropped its North American roster after securing a spot in the VCT Pacific league. Gen.G assembled an all-Korean team with players from teams like Northeption, On Sla2ers, and Vision Strikers.

Gen.G began the year with a Round of 32 exit at VCT LOCK//IN after losing to eventual runners-up LOUD. The team then fell short of qualifying for VCT Masters Tokyo and Valorant Champions after finishing the VCT Pacific League in fourth place and the region’s Last-Chance Qualifier in third place.

In a post on X/Twitter, Elmapuddy admitted that the language barrier made it impossible for him to put his imprint on the team.

“When Gen.G moved from NA to Korea, I knew it would be a challenge, and an opportunity I’m glad I took,” the Australian wrote. “However, with my contract expiring it didn’t make sense to resign.

“We tried, but with the team speaking Korean I just couldn’t have the level of impact I wanted. Thanks.”

Several players have also taken to social media to announce that they are open to offers. eKo mentioned that he speaks Japanese, which could open the door to a move to a team like ZETA DIVISION, while TS stated that he will entertain offers from “all regions”.
