As the end of the main series approaches, Taylor Sheridan has blessed Yellowstone fans once again with a whole new spinoff. This time, The Madison will skip historical tales and take us into a new era for the Dutton family tree.
This is bittersweet for fans, who are still reeling from the fact Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 will be the end of the main show. Still, if goodbyes need to be said, then at least the modern-day Dutton ranch won’t be gone for long.
While this next chapter of the Yellowstone universe could be a while off, Duttonheads still want to know everything they can about the newest Taylor Sheridan show. So, what’s going on with The Madison? Here’s what we know.
What is The Madison?
The Madison is a spin-off of the main Yellowstone series and was officially announced in November 2023. It’s also now been retitled from its working name Yellowstone 2024.
It’ll likely take place after the final bunch of Yellowstone episodes in the main timeline, which are due to arrive in November 2024.
The spin-off was reported by Variety alongside a second, Yellowstone 1944, meaning we can look forward to another taste of the Duttons, both past and present, once again.
“On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spin-offs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon — thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios.
The Madison release date
There’s no confirmed The Madison release date just yet.
The spin-off is still in development, so late 2025 is the very earliest we can expect it.
There are a couple of things Taylor Sheridan needs to check off his to-do list first. For one, there’s the flagship Yellowstone series and 1923 Season 2 to finish up.
He’s also moving full steam ahead with his non-Yellowstone projects, like Lioness Season 2 and Tulsa King Season 2. Oh, and there’s also his new drama series, Landman, currently in pre-production.
Sheridan is one of the busiest figures in TV right now, so it’s likely there won’t be word on a Yellowstone 2024 release date until next year.

The Madison cast
Michelle Pfeiffer is confirmed to lead the The Madison cast. She will be joined by LOST star, Matthew Fox.
Nothing about Pfeiffer’s role has been expanded on, though the announcement has seemingly squashed rumors that Matthew McConaughey will appear… at least, not in this Yellowstone spinoff.
It is also unclear what role Fox will play at this time, though Pfeiffer is expected to be the main lead.
However, a rumor (which came to light via Puck in May 2024) suggests that Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes have all signed on to reprise their Yellowstone roles in the new sequel series. This comes after alleged pay disputes that needed to be worked out before anything could be confirmed.
Of course, this is yet to be confirmed by Paramount, so take this with a pinch of salt. However, it would make sense for them to be in it if the new show is a direct continuation of the main show.
Still, more rumors surfaced in August 2024 that Yellowstone Season 6 was back on the cards, so who knows?
With that comes the possibility of more Dutton appearances (whichever ones are still standing, of course). We could even see some familiar ranch hands, too. Basically, we shouldn’t rule out any member of the Yellowstone cast at this point.
What will The Madison be about?
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed The Madison will be a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”
Aside from that, we’ve got no real idea yet. However, the working title of Yellowstone 2024 suggested it’ll be a sequel. If so, everything hangs on where the ranch and the remaining Yellowstone characters are by the finale.
The Madison could keep the Dutton family as a focus, with the battle for the Yellowstone ranch continuing. After all, hasn’t that been the driving force of the entire Yellowstone universe until now?
