Will Sheldon be in the Georgie and Mandy spinoff?

With Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage on a big break until 2025, you may be wondering if Sheldon will ever appear in the spinoff.

For 12 seasons of The Big Bang Theory and seven seasons of Young Sheldon, things have been told from Sheldon Cooper’s perspective. That’s now changed, with Sheldon’s older brother Georgie, taking over the reins.

Prequel-sequel Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage arguably doesn’t have to include the youngest Cooper boy at all. He’s all settled in Caltech, and that’s a narrative strand that holds firm until TBBT.

Georgie and Mandy are married with their own family, and the drama doesn’t always extend to the Coopers. But will Iain Armitage ever make the jump from the Young Sheldon cast to be in the spinoff?

There is currently no confirmation that Sheldon will appear in Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage, but based on what the creators have said, it seems unlikely.

Fans might have been expecting him to come back in Episode 5, which was a Thanksgiving special that saw the Coopers and McAllisters united as one. However, he didn’t – for one simple reason.

“Initially, when we were talking about the episode, it was certainly part of the discussion — like, ‘Should Sheldon be a part of this?’ There are certain occasions where you could bring him back, but as we were breaking the [episode], it just felt like it was actually going to hurt this story,” co-creator Steve Holland told TV Line.

“Often, when a matriarch or a patriarch passes away, the family can splinter, and that’s what is happening here. And as fun as it would have been to see him, it felt like there is no world where that family doesn’t get together, and Mary doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving, if Sheldon is coming back from California. So, it seemed to make “Sheldon sense” that he didn’t come back, and it made sense for the story we were trying to tell.”

Armitage doesn’t think Sheldon needs to be seen again. He previously told ET “They don’t even need me stepping in and intruding. I can’t wait to see what they do. But I would love to step in for an episode.”

We know there won’t be a Christmas episode of the binge-worthy TV show, so it could be a while before there’s any change. That being said, the series has been ordered for a full 22 episodes that are still being filmed. In other words… never say never.

Georgie and Mandy cameos so far

Zoe Perry, Annie Potts, and Raegan Revord have all reprised their characters for multiple episodes of the Georgie & Mandy spinoff. Craig T. Nelson also came back as Dale for Thanksgiving.

Meemaw and Mary have so far been in both Episode 1 and Episode 5. They first helped the young couple settle into their new digs – before they promptly moved back out – before reuniting for the holiday season.

While Meemaw is… Meemaw, Mary is falling further and further into the clutches of grief. This isn’t helping her relationship with Missy, who we see in Episodes 2 and 5. She’s even more rebellious than in Young Sheldon, smoking weed and talking Mandy into helping her get a tattoo.

It goes without saying that Georgie, Mandy, Audrey, and Jim have all been seen before too. Mandy’s younger brother Connor has been recast since his time on the show.

What happens to Sheldon after Young Sheldon?

From both Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory, we know that Sheldon successfully started his grad school education at the age of 14, staying at Caltech into his adult years and later working there.

By the time the Young Sheldon Season 7 finale comes around, Sheldon has officially said goodbye to Texas, making California — and Caltech itself — his permanent home. As his educational history tells us, Sheldon arrived there when he was fourteen and a half, receiving his first doctorate at the age of 16. He then spent four years on his second dissertation before obtaining his position as a theoretical physicist.

By the end of The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon and his wife Amy win the Nobel prize for discovering super-asymmetry, which is a fictional theory of string theory related to super-symmetry string theory. While this makes up the show’s final episode — and caps off our knowledge of adult Sheldon — it also links Georgie, and possibly Mandy, back to Sheldon’s future.

Sheldon claims that two of Georgie’s ex-wives message him to congratulate his win, though he doesn’t specify which two. However, Osment believes that one of them could be Mandy — especially because of the emphasis that Georgie and Mandy’s marriage in the sequel is their first.

“I’m hoping that I’m the ex-wife and the new wife,” Emily Osment explained when she was asked about the storyline by TV Line. “People get divorced and then they get remarried. Why can’t she [Mandy] be both?”
