Details on Wednesday Season 2 are coming out of the shadows, with one recent update of a new love interest going against what Jenna Ortega has said about the new season.

Jenna Ortega led Netflix’s revamp of the beloved goth character Wednesday Addams from the original black-and-white series and movies with Christina Ricci. Wednesday was a major success for the platform as it focused on the macabre teen as she attended Nevermore. She ventures to figure out her powers and stops murder.

Despite the series few hiccups, Wednesday Season 2 was announced by Netflix. Ortega has previously stated that she wasn’t too keen on the love triangle in the first season. Her character was divided by human-turned-villain Tyler and Nevermore student Xavier. The actor revealed Wednesday Season 2 would ditch the romance and focus more on horror.

But recent new details of Season 2 have thrown Ortega’s statement out the window as a new love interest character was revealed.

Wednesday Season 2 will bring back the romance

Wednesday Season 2 was revealed to include a new character named Bruno who will serve as the season’s new love interest.

According to What’s on Netflix, one of the new characters for the season is Bruno. He’s a “Hispanic/Latino teen character who’s a new love interest in the show. Described as having a “smoldering look.”

The news doesn’t detail exactly whose love interest Bruno will be, but many fans speculate it could be about Wednesday. Bruno’s inclusion goes against Ortega’s strong statement that she didn’t want romance to be the focal point of Wednesday’s story like the first season.

In 2023, Ortega spoke to Variety, saying, “It’s still coming together, but we’ve decided we want to lean into the horror more. We’re ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great. We’re going to get bolder, more dark. I’ve never had to do a serious period piece before. Was there anything you have to do to make sure things are accurate?”

On X/Twitter, fans found the news of the new love interest baffling given Ortega’s statement.

“Remember when Jenna mentioned “‘We’re ditching any romantic love interest?’ This contradicts what she said, umm…,” said one fan.

Another fan echoed the confusion saying, “That can’t be true. Jenna Ortega said she didn’t want there to be romance in the next season.”

Other fans theorize that the love interest may not be for Wednesday at all. The news doesn’t specify who Bruno’s inclusion will be for. It may very well be Enid, as it’s speculated she will return for Season 2.
