Star Wars is constantly expanding with multiple TV shows releasing on Disney+ on top of a wide range of new films in the pipeline. Here’s a complete rundown of all upcoming Star Wars projects to get you up to hyperspeed.
With multiple new movies, new TV shows, and lots of additional lore to keep track of, the future of the galaxy far beyond still has many stories to tell.
Some don’t have release dates confirmed, so it’s hard to say what the exact Star Wars timeline will look like in the next few years. However, there are plenty of confirmed projects to get excited about.
These are all the new Star Wars movies and TV shows we know about.
Star Wars Skeleton Crew — December 3, 2024
Another new Star Wars show, Skeleton Crew boasts an ensemble of young stars, led by Dumbledore actor Jude Law. Arriving on Disney+ on December 3, 2024, the show has been described as a coming-of-age tale amid a galaxy in strife.
Set nine years after the battle of Yavin, this places it five years after Return of the Jedi, starting at almost the same time as Season 1 of The Mandalorian.
Creator John Watts added in an interview, “This is a show that we’ve been working on for a really long time. It’s a story of 10-year-old kids from a tiny planet who get lost in the Star Wars galaxy. It’s the story of their journey home.”
Star Wars: Andor Season 2 — TBA 2025
Season 1 was a massive hit with Star Wars fans, so it’s no surprise that the show will be back. However, it has been confirmed that Andor will end after Season 2, with the final episodes leading straight into the events of Star Wars: Rogue One.
Andor Season 2 will have 12 episodes and span four years, starting one year after the events of the first season.
Although Season 2 was originally set for an August 2024 release, the WGA strike of 2023 halted production and led to delays. No clear update has been provided, though Disney appeared to leave Andor Season 2 off its 2024 slate, indicating a 2025 release date.
The Mandalorian & Grogu — TBA 2026
While we first thought The Mandalorian Season 4 would end this adventure, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a bigger plan in action.
As announced on January 9, 2024, The Mandalorian and Grogu, a feature-length film, is set to enter production in 2024. It’s to be the culmination of the storytelling done in the Star Wars series and is being steered by Filoni; Star Wars’ Infinity War.
It’s expected to be released in 2026, as Disney has May 22 secured.
Star Wars New Jedi Order — TBA
Besides the Mando movie, we know most about the vision for this film. Following Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker as she charts a new path, Star Wars New Jedi Order is set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. We’ll watch Rey attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order from the ground up.
The project is currently being written, so is thankfully further along in the development process than many other titles. It’ll be directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker and journalist Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
We think Rey is fully deserving of a solo adventure, given how weighed down she was in the Skywalker saga. There’s no release date yet, but it would make sense for it to be the next theatrical pit-stop following The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Star Wars: Lando Movie — TBA
Despite being revealed in 2020, and originally intended as a spinoff series, not much has been announced about the upcoming Lando project. It’s meant to star Donald Glover as a young Lando, as seen in Han Solo.
However, part-way through 2023 we learned it had evolved from a mere Disney+ series to a full-fledged movie… apparently.
An exact plot or release window is yet to be announced; it seems to be one of the projects needing to be saved from development hell.
Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Movie — TBA
Like many other projects on this list, there are no concrete details about Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie. What we do know is that it is still going ahead and that Waititi will reportedly have a role in the film.
Given that the director typically appears in most of his projects, this detail isn’t exactly surprising. However, it is interesting to speculate what type of character he will play.
Waititi has shown great enthusiasm for the universe, and he and Disney have denied rumors the film has been shelved.
Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Trilogy — TBA
Director Rian Johnson is still hoping that he will find the time to make a Star Wars spin-off Trilogy. At the end of 2022, the director provided an update on the process and now, he has once again addressed the Trilogy in an interview with Variety.
When speaking on the outlet’s Awards Circuit Podcast, Johnson explained how he maintains a constant conversation with Disney despite not actively working on any Star Wars content.
“I have talked to Kathy [Kathleen Kennedy] about it and we’re still talking about it,” says Johnson. “I had such an amazing experience making ‘The Last Jedi.’ It’s entirely a matter of scheduling.”
While Johnson’s The Last Jedi was extremely divisive, some fans (us) are excited to see what the director does when he can develop a whole trilogy from his perspective.
Untitled James Mangold film — TBA
Also announced during the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event, we know James Mangold is set to write and direct his own Star Wars film. The working title seems to be Dawn of the Jedi, although there’s no official word.
The project is set to chart new territory for the franchise as a whole, being set roughly 25,000 years before A New Hope.
Described by Lucasfilm as a “biblical epic,” the film will lift the veil on the “dawn of the Jedi,” revealing how the religion came to be and how the first force sensitives discovered their powers.
While we wait, find out how many Star Wars movies are there, what does BBY mean in Star Wars, and when does Andor take place.
