The age of rom-coms might be back, as a classic starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds is making its way up the charts on Netflix’s top 10 list.
Netflix’s top 10 list often entails a few new releases that fans binge-watch or the occasional oldie but goodie that has recently enthralled fans. Many times it’s due to Netflix acquiring the licensing rights to stream the movie – making it readily available to fans.
A few forgotten movies have made their way on the top 10 list from an underrated Russell Crowe thriller to a Tom Holland action movie that didn’t do too well in theaters.
Now it’s time for the reign of rom-coms as a well-loved Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds movie has overtaken some fresh new content on Netflix. Any guesses? Here’s the answer.
Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds’ The Proposal climbs Netflix chart
As both actors have only starred in one rom-com together, it’s no surprise that the movie is none other than The Proposal.
So far, The Proposal has taken over fourth place on Netflix’s top 10 list. It overtook The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Adam Sandler’s Leo. The rom-com his also more popular than Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire.

For the week of January 8-14, The Proposal has had an impressive 8.8 million hours viewed, and 4.9 million views total. But it’s still very behind when it comes to The Equalizer 3, Transporter 2, and Kevin Hart’s Lift; the latter currently has 32.8 million views in total.
The Proposal premiered in 2009 at the height of rom-com supremacy. It indulged in the boss-worker romance that started as enemies and became a love story. Bullock starred as Margaret Tate, a Canadian executive editor-in-chief of a New York book publishing company. Reynolds starred as Andrew Paxton, her personal assistant who moved to the big city with dreams of becoming an editor.
But his dreams never happened and he’s stuck as Margaret’s lap dog. When her visa renewal is denied it puts her prestigious job in jeopardy. She needs a quick solution – and the only way to stay in the country is by getting married and getting a green card.
She soon proposed a deal with Andrew to give him an editor position in exchange for a fake marriage. With his career also in jeopardy, he agrees. With Margaret’s well-known dragon-lady attitude, the two butt heads often. But it soon blossoms into love as they get to know more about each other.
