Cerveza Cristal is the drink of choice in Star Wars

The original Star Wars trilogy aired on Channel 13 in Chile in the early 2000s. To cut down on advert time, the production team edited the popular Cristal beer into the movie. Fans could see Obi-wan enjoying a refreshing alcoholic beverage. To be fair, the edits were incredibly convincing.

In the original commercial shared on X/Twitter, Obi-wan and Luke are having a normal conversation when Obi-wan tells the young Jedi that he has something for him. He says, “Your father wanted you to have this,” and reveals a cooler full of Cerveza Cristal followed by its theme song.

One person on X/Twitter commented, “This is insane.” According to the original poster of the commercial, many refused to believe it was real and fabricated for likes. But they are real, so much so that a grievance report was filed with the Chilean Council for Self-Regulation and Advertising Ethics at the time. Lucas Films won the legal battle in their favor and no more commercials were aired.

The resurfacing of the commercial has led many fans to try their hand at editing the Chilean beer into other popular movies.

More meme edits include the iconic, “What’s in the box!?” scene from Se7en. And the famous scene in Gladiator, “Are you not entertained!”

Another took the reigns and instead of beer added an old menstrual pad commercial to the skydiving scene in Point Break. Dune has also gotten the special treatment with a shot of Paul in the sequel was memed to make it seem like he’s screaming, “Cerveza Cristal!”
