Jim Carrey is officially returning as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the threequel that seems to gearing up for a big Shadow reveal soon.

Carrey’s filmography is full of iconic movies: Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Cable Guy, The Truman Show, and Bruce Almighty – to name a few.

However, barring a few limited exceptions, the actor isn’t known for starring in sequels, once branding them a “function of commerce” more than anything else.

Yet, it’s just been confirmed that’ll play SEGA’s moustachioed villain for a third time in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the blue blur’s next highly-anticipated big-screen adventure.

Sonic 3 confirms Jim Carrey’s return and teases Shadow once more

Carrey will reprise his role as Doctor Eggman in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, as confirmed by Variety.

As the outlet notes, Sonic 2 left the antagonist’s fate uncertain, as he seemed to perish after plummeting from his giant robot. But remember: G.U.N. agents tried to find his body in the rubble… and Robotnik was missing.

If Carrey gets his way, Sonic 3 will mark another evolution of the villain’s appearance; in other words, we’ll get fat Eggman. “Honestly, I’ve been lobbying for the fat Eggman, the big Eggman for a while but apparently they wanted to show the audience how imperfect my actual body is,” he told Comic Book.

“Here’s so much fun with the look of this character you know? I really wanted to start veering toward and I lobbied hard toward… like let’s do the guy that they’re used to seeing. That moustache is an outward manifestation of ego. He shaves his head on the mushroom planet because that’s loser hair. That’s the hair that lost the battle, man… you got to get rid of that.”

That’s not all: the movie just unveiled its official logo, crackling with blue and red lightning (as well as featuring an orchestral arrangement of ‘Live and Learn’) and bearing some resemblance to Sonic Adventure 2.

Shadow is coming, but we still don’t know who’s voicing him. Recent rumors suggested it could be Hayden Christensen, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
