Avengers: Endgame directors The Russo Brothers have expressed their interest in bringing the X-Men into the MCU.
Plenty of films have helped shaped the MCU, but The Russo Brothers left a huge impact with their Avengers sequels. Managing to bring the entire MCU roster together across Infinity War and Endgame, the directing duo are interested in fleshing out another set of iconic characters.
The X-Men have been absent from cinema screens since 2019 but The Russo Brothers could breathe new life into them.
Russo Brothers open to MCU return in the future
The acclaimed Marvel directors have revealed to AP Entertainment they’re open to returning to the MCU: “We’re always open to it. We love those guys. Right now our slates pretty full…you never say never.”
“If the right storyline comes up at the right time, we all go back to work,” continued Joe Russo.

When asked about bringing a new perspective to the X-Men, Joe explained “that was one of my favorite comics growing up. One of my prized possessions is Incredible Hulk 181, which was the first appearance of Wolverine.”
“Wolverine being so essential to the X-Men, of course, that would be a fun project to work on and find a new way into it.”
However, it could be quite some time before the new iteration of the X-Men is revealed, as Joe Russo thinks “that’s probably something that Kevin [Feige] has rightfully put aside for a while.”
The Russo Brothers have been associated with the project before, as Giant Freaking Robot reported their rumoured involvement with adapting Secret Wars for the big screen.
As the MCU prepares for its next saga, introducing the X-Men could be the ultimate backup when trouble comes calling.
