Season 2 of John Cena’s Peacemaker HBO series, a spin-off from James Gunn’s Suicide Squad movie, is now in the works.
Peacemaker season 1 was a surprise hit with DC fans. Between John Cena’s committed performance as the titular character as well as a solid script written by James Gunn, the first season had viewers begging for more.
Some time has passed since the first season was released on HBO, as Gunn busies himself with launching the new DCU and filming a brand-new Superman movie.
While you wait for Peacemaker Season 2, here’s a look at everything we know so far.
Does Peacemaker season 2 have a release date?
No, Peacemaker Season 2 does not yet have a confirmed release date. Filming for Peacemaker Season 2 officially kicked off on April 13, Gunn confirmed on Threads. As of June 13, filming was still underway.
Though Gunn long ago reduced his presence on Twitter, he’s kept fans updated via his Instagram and Threads accounts. That’s how fans learned he was writing Season 2 last fall.
With all that in mind, it’s likely that the new season of Peacemaker won’t come out for another year or two. It’s important to remember that Gunn has stated his current priority is finishing Superman for a 2025 release date.
Gunn has also commented on how he will incorporate Peacemaker into the DCU, stating [via ComicBook.com], “Because it’s my favorite thing to do, it’s the biggest original Max show ever, and I have a way in. It won’t be confusing.”
Peacemaker season 2 cast: Who will return for the second season?
Much of the cast of Season 1 will be returning, along with a few surprise characters. Core cast members, including John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee, will all be returning.

Gunn confirmed in a May 10 Threads post that Creature Commandos star Frank Grillo would be reprising his role as Rick Flag Sr. throughout the season.

Sol Rodriguez was recently cast as Sasha Bordeaux. In the comics, Bordeaux is a skilled martial artist and agent of A.R.G.U.S. who was first introduced as Bruce Wayne’s bodyguard. Tim Meadows has also been cast as Langston Fleury, an A.R.G.U.S. agent who makes his debut in Peacemaker.
David Denman, best known as Roy from The Office, was also announced as joining the cast, though his role is as yet unknown.
Peacemaker season 2 plot: What will it be about?
Peacemaker Season 1 mostly wrapped up its plot arcs. After Harcourt’s near death and a surprise cameo from the Justice League, the season ends with Project Butterfly, Task Force X, and Amanda Waller exposed by Waller’s daughter, Adebayo.
In the episode’s final moments, Peacemaker returns home to find that Goff’s Butterfly has survived. The season ends with Peacemaker on his porch, drinking a beer alongside Goff’s Butterfly, Eagly, and a grim hallucination of his father.
Season 2’s plot details have been kept under wraps, though Gunn alluded to Peacemaker and Rick Flag Sr. having “a little unfinished business.” Considering Peacemaker killed Flag Sr.’s son in The Suicide Squad, they almost certainly have a beef to squash.
We also know that despite this being a second season, it won’t all fit so cleanly into the new DCU. Gunn has stated that only parts of Season 1 will be canon, with the whole of Season 2 set after his Superman movie.
Beyond that, the new season of Peacemaker is still largely left open. However, fans can expect more quips, violence, and humor on the darker side of the DCU.
