The fifth and final Indiana Jones movie – Dial of Destiny – bombed at the domestic box office over the weekend, and fared just as badly oversees.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny debuted in Cannes, and in spite of some so-so reviews, was one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the summer.

That’s in part because of its pedigree, being the climax of a beloved franchise. But also because of a hefty $295 million price-tag, with fans excited to see what an Indy movie of that size and scale would look like.

The movie opened globally at the end of last week, meaning Saturday and Sunday’s box office receipts have been added up, and the totals aren’t good.

Indiana Jones 5 box office: How much has it made?

Indiana Jones 5 grossed $60 million at the domestic box office over the weekend. That was enough to land the top spot in the US charts. But disappointing compared to that whopping budget.

The Hollywood Reporter believes that once the July 4th holiday is complete this week, Dial of Destiny’s domestic haul will be $82 million. Which pales in comparison to the $100 million Kingdom of the Crystal Skull pulled in on its first three days back in 2008.

Outside the States Indy 5 made $70 million for a lackluster global start of $130 million. Those figures include $8.9 million in the UK, $4.7 million in Japan, and $2.3 million in China, where the series has little in the way of a cultural footprint.

What is the total gross for the previous Indiana Jones movies?

  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: $197 million
  • Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: $317 million
