Here’s how to watch Borderlands from home, one of 2024’s most panned movies, and where it’ll be available for streaming.
Based on the popular and award-winning videogame franchise, the Borderlands movie finally arrived in theatres in August 2024.
While boasting an impressive cast and including some iconic characters from the video game franchise, the film has struggled at the box office. Borderlands’ Rotten Tomatoes score also leaves a lot to be desired.
As such, reports claim it will soon be available on streaming services following a very brief theatrical run. Here are the latest updates on how and when to watch Borderlands from home.
Is Borderlands streaming?
Lionsgate has not confirmed the digital release date, but the streaming tracker When to Stream claims it’ll be Friday, August 30, 2024.
According to When to Stream, Borderlands is expected on premium video on demand then. However, Lionsgate has not yet announced or confirmed this. It could be inaccurate or the date could change.
When to Stream is usually accurate in its reports on PVOD dates, and DVD Releases corroborated the August 30 date, too.
Borderlands can already be pre-ordered on Prime Video for $24.99, but the date it will be released and accessible on Prime Video has yet to be determined.

A quick theatrical to streaming pipeline is a bad sign
Studios want films based on popular IP to stay in cinemas for as long as possible. Long legs at the box office mean more revenue, soaking up all the theatrical customers available before moving to digital.
If a new movie isn’t performing as expected, that window is usually dramatically shortened. That’s why box office hits can take several months to arrive on streaming services while smaller ones might only wait a few weeks.
Given that Borderlands has struggled to make an impact at the box office, its digital release coming so soon after its theatrical run is in line with what happens to films that flop.
This also mirrors the same quick-release pattern that Lionsgate implemented for the digital streaming release of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, another bomb.
While fans may recognize the names of many characters featured, there are a lot of Borderlands movie and game differences. This is one of the few reasons the project failed to connect.
