Yoda is even smaller than you think and we can prove it

Yoda in Star Wars20th Century Studios

Yoda famously claimed “Size matters not” in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, but after learning how tall he is and comparing him to characters from across TV, movies, and gaming, we’re not so sure.

As the legendary Jedi Master who led the Jedi Order through the time of the High Republic, Yoda has been around a fair bit in the Star Wars universe — yet there’s fairly little known about him. It’s unsurprising that such an intelligent being plays their cards close to their chest with information surrounding his species essentially a complete mystery (ish, but that’s a story for another day).

One thing that Star Wars fans might have found mind-boggling is Yoda’s size, so here’s everything you need to know about how tall Yoda is, and how he compares to other famous characters you will recognize.

How tall is Yoda in Star Wars?

The short answer is that Yoda is 66cm tall, which is roughly 26 inches. However, what we’re going to do below is compare his height to many other characters as you might be surprised just how many tower over him.

Yoda is one of the strongest Jedis in the Star Wars series.

There is some potential leeway in Yoda’s definite height, with some fans thinking that he could be as tall as three feet.

It’s also thought that Baby Yoda is approximately one foot tall, which is around 30cm. Though not much is known about their species, we can safely assume slow growth is a biological factor, despite the literal hundreds of years Yoda has had to catch up to the human level.

Comparing Yoda’s height with other Star Wars characters

In a galaxy as big as the Star Wars universe, it’s no surprise that our little green friend isn’t the only vertically challenged character in the franchise. Of course, for as many short characters, there are just as many tall ones, and we’ve put together the image below to show you where Yoda falls.

A height chart comparing the size of Babu Frik, Yoda, R2-D2, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Darth VaderDisney
As you can see, Yoda is bigger than Babu Frik in the chart.

While Yoda is one of the smallest characters in Star Wars, he’s definitely not at the very bottom of the list. In fact, he towers over everyone’s favorite droidsmith Babu Frik—he’s literally three times his height. Don’t get it twisted though, the Jedi master is still tiny, as even if you stacked three Yodas on top of each other, they still wouldn’t be able to look the colossal Darth Vader in the eye. (Or mask, I suppose.)

Comparing Yoda to Mario, Pikachu & others

So we all know how Yoda stacks up against characters in Star Wars, but how about other fictional short kings? Does Master Yoda stand taller than Game of Thrones’ Tyrion Lannister? How does he compare to Nintendo’s iconic Italian plumber?

A chart comparing the heights of Yoda, Tyrion Lannister, Pikachu, Mario, Bart Simpson, and Rocket Racoon.Disney, HBO, Nintendo
If you tell me that you thought Mario was double Yoda’s height before you saw this chart, you’re lying.

Apart from Pikachu, he’s getting dwarfed by the other characters who are all known for their height. Putting them side by side like this, I genuinely can’t believe how tall Mario is. He’s literally more than double Yoda’s height. Even Bart Simpson (a child) and Rocket Racoon (an animal) are giants compared to the little guy.

Tough scenes.

So, as we know, Yoda is 66cm tall. In Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the hulking dinosaur stands at a gargantuan 120 meters or 12,000 centimeters. So, by doing some quick math, we can conclude that you would need to place 182 Yodas on top of each other to reach the same height as Godzilla.

Godzilla vs 182 Yodas. There’s your next blockbuster Hollywood, you’re welcome.

While Yoda may not be growing anymore, the Star Wars universe is always getting bigger. Check out everything we know about Andor season 2 and The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, or explore all the new movies dropping this month.
