Biggest box office hits of 2024 so far, including Alien Romulus

Alien Romulus cracks the Top 10, while Deadpool & Wolverine closes in on Inside Out 2 atop the 2024 box office chart.

2023 was the year of Barbie, with Greta Gerwig’s inspired toy movie grossing $1.43 billion at the global box office. A huge number that was buoyed by the Barbenheimer phenomenon, thanks to Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer coming in third with a haul of $970 million.

In between those two behemoths – with a haul of $1.36 billion – was the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Fast X rounded out the Top 5.

This year horror movies have done big business, and animated films have been a dominant force, especially Inside Out 2. While more recently, superhero sequel Deadpool & Wolverine opened to huge numbers.
