In 2010, the world was dropped into, fell in love with, and mourned over Pandora: the breathtaking world at the heart of Avatar.

While many expected a sequel to follow quickly, James Cameron isn’t known for trying to cash in on something quickly, instead waiting for technology to catch up to his expansive ideas.

It was worth the wait. The Way of Water is now one of the highest-grossing movies ever. So, here are the main Avatar 2 cast and characters.

Jake Sully: Sam Worthington

Jake Sully in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Leading actor Sam Worthington returned as Jake Sully, an ex-human marine who, in the first movie, fell in love with Neytiri and ended up becoming one of the Na’vi. Since he left his human form behind, Worthington is featured in Avatar 2 in his blue form.

Fans will mostly recognize him from Terminator: Salvation or the fantasy movie Clash of Titans. Worthington is set to appear in Avatar 3, 4, and 5, so Jake is in the franchise for the long haul.

Neytiri: Zoe Saldaña

Zoe Saldana as Neytiri in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Zoe Saldaña reprises her role as Neytiri, the future Tsahìk of her clan and Jake’s wife, with whom she shares kids. She’s the most proactive character in Avatar 2, retaining her intensity from the original. A devoted mother and a fierce warrior, we wouldn’t want to mess with her.

Saldaña is no stranger to sci-fi and is best known for playing Gamora in The Guardians of the Galaxy movies. She’s also the second-highest-grossing actress of all time. Previously, she was in the most recent Star Trek movies, but more recently led the Special Ops: Lioness cast.

Kiri: Sigourney Weaver

Sigourney Weaver as Kiri in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Sigourney Weaver plays Kiri, Jake and Neytiri’s adopted daughter. Weaver was Dr. Grace Augustine in the first film, who died during the RDA assault on Hometree. Kiri shares a unique bond with the lush world around her and is one of the more sensitive characters. She also has a special relationship with Spider.

Weaver is an acclaimed actor well acquainted with franchise work. She has starred in classics like Ghostbusters, made her mark on cinema forever when she was cast as Ripley in Alien, and has appeared in many other films.

Spider: Jack Champion

Jack Champion as Spider in Avatar 2, The Way of Water20th Century Studios

Jack Champion plays Spider, a human born on Pandora after the RDA left. Spider grew up around the Na’vi, spending time with Norm and Max in the labs and bonding with Jake and Neytiri’s kids. While Jake believes Neytiri will always see him as “an alien”, their kids (Neteyam, Lo’ak, Tuk, and Kiri, the latter of whom they adopted) see him as family. In The Way of Water, he struggles with his sense of belonging, as he’s pulled between the Na’vi and his biological father.

Outside of Avatar, Champion has appeared in movies like Extraordinary and The Night Sitter. More recently, he made a brief appearance in Scream 6.

Neteyam: Jamie Flatters

James Flatters as Neteyam in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Jamie Flatters plays Neteyam, the eldest son of Jake and Neytiri. He’s just 15 during Avatar 2 and is the character used to hammer home many of the film’s themes. He’s the more mature and focused sibling who tries to keep his younger brother out of trouble.

Flatters was in the Netflix movie The Forgotten Battle and has also been part of various British TV series like CBBC’s So Awkward, Channel 4’s Close To Me, and ITV’s Liar. His most recent movie role was The School for Good and Evil.

Lo’ak: Britain Dalton

A Tulkun whale, the source of Amrita, in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Britain Dalton plays Lo’ak, the youngest son of Jake and Neytiri who constantly rebels against his father’s orders, falls in love with Reya, and bonds with the outcast Tulkun, Payakan. Lo’ak is Jake and Neytiri’s other biological son and the second-oldest child after Neteyam. Lo’ak is hasty and has a strong sense of justice. His actions in the film have major consequences, and he is set to take over as the narrator in Avatar 3.

Before getting cast in Avatar 2, Dalton’s most significant role was a recurring one in the Prime Video series Goliath. Additionally, he was in Dark Harvest, a monster movie released in 2022. He’s set to appear in Avatar 3, 4, and 5, which means he’ll be occupied for some time.

Tuk: Trinity Jo-Li Bliss

Trinity Jo-Li Bliss as Tuk in Avatar The Way of Water20th Century Studios

Tuktirey, nicknamed ‘Tuk’, is Jake and Neytiri’s adorable youngest daughter in the Avatar 2 cast. Free-spirited and good-natured, she has a carefree quality her older siblings can’t afford after they experience the brewing war.

Tuk is the first major role of the child actor Trinity Bliss, who was seven during filming. Despite her youth, she learned to free-dive for the movie to film long scenes underwater. Bliss also starred in the Max comedy show The Garcias.

Colonel Miles Quaritch: Stephen Lang

Stephen Lang as Quaritch in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Stephen Lang returns as Colonel Miles Quaritch, the primary antagonist of the first film. If you cast your mind back, he was killed in a bout with Jake and Neytiri, getting more than a few arrows and a knife through the chest. However, Avatar 2 sees him reprise his role as a “Recombinant”, essentially a Na’vi body embedded with his consciousness.

While Lang has enjoyed a long career in the likes of Manhunter, Tombstone, and Public Enemies, he’s likely best known for starring as ‘The Blind Man’ in the Don’t Breathe movies.

Corporal Lyle Wainfleet: Matt Gerald

Miles Wainfleet in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Matt Gerald returns as Lyle Wainfleet, an RDA soldier also killed in the Na’vi retaliation in the original film, whose memories have been transferred to a Na’vi body, allowing him to live.

When Gerald isn’t visiting Pandora, he’s taking the world of television by storm. His biggest roles are in the serial killer series Dexter and the Marvel series Daredevil on Netflix.

Ronal: Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet as Ronal in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Kate Winslet’s Ronal is one of the new characters. Ronal is a free diver from the oceanic Metkayina clan and although she is hesitant to take the Sullys in, she eventually decides to allow them to stay and has empathy for their situation.

Winslet is an award-winning actor whose past credits include Titanic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and indie darlings like Ammonite. Winslet trained to be able to film underwater for a long time to shoot Avatar 2. We don’t know how long she’ll stick around, but she’s slated to be in Avatar 3.

Tonowari: Cliff Curtis

Cliff Curtis as Tonowari and Kate Winslet as Ronal in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Cliff Curtis plays Tonowari, the leader of the Metkayina clan and Ronal’s husband. While his wife had more reservations than he, Tonowari convinced her to lend a helping hand to the Sullys. A strict father and capable warrior, he’s a good ally.

New Zealander Cliff Curtis has appeared in Sunshine, Training Day, The Meg, Doctor Sleep, Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbes and Shaw, and The Dark Horse. He was also Travis Manawa in the Fear the Walking Dead cast

Reya: Bailey Bass

Reya in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Tsireya (or Reya) Ronal’s daughter and one of the most skilled free divers of the Metkayina and Tonowari. When the Sullys arrive, she helps train the kids and is more welcoming than many others. She becomes friends with the Sully children and shares a romantic connection with Lo’ak.

Bass began acting in a My Little Pony commercial at five years old. Since then, she’s been in the Interview with the Vampire TV series and guest-starred in Law & Order: SVU.

Mo’at: CCH Pounder

In Avatar 2, Neytiri’s mother Mo’at returns. She’s theTsahìk in her clan, which means she’s their spiritual leader. Initially, she disproved Jake and Neytiri’s relationship but has come to accept it. She has also developed a close relationship with her grandchildren. When Jake and Neytiri took their family into hiding with the Metkayina, Mo’at chose to stay behind.

CCH Pounder, an actor with a vast career in the film industry, is best known for her TV work. She was Dr. Angela Hicks in ER and played the role of the mysterious Mrs. Frederick in the sci-fi series Warehouse 13. Pounder also had a major part in The Shield and a minor one in Sons of Anarchy.

Norm Spellman: Joel David Moore

Norm Spellman is a skilled scientist and was also one of the first humans to control an avatar. In the first movie, Norm switches sides and helps the Na’vi people against the colonizing humans. Although his avatar was injured during the Battle of the Tree of Souls, he survived. In Avatar 2, Jake calls on Norm to help with medical assistance for Kiri.

Parker Selfridge: Giovanni Ribisi

Giovanni Ribisi will return for Avatar 220th Century Studios

Giovanni Ribisi returned to play Parker Selfridge, the ambitious head executive of RDA’s mission on Pandora. He’s a bulldozing capitalist who spares little thought for the Na’vi, and as such, coexistence isn’t an option.

Ribisi has been working for decades, appearing in the Sofia Coppola movie Lost in Translation, Ted, and Boiler Room. He also left us sobbing in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan and made us chuckle as Pheobe Buffay’s dumb-as-a-rock little brother in Friends.

General Frances Ardmore: Edie Falco

Edie Falco in Avatar 220th Century Studios

Edie Falco plays General Frances Ardmore in The Way of Water cast, the Commander in charge of the RDA. She’s one of the franchise’s baddies, then.

Falco is an award-winning actor and is highly regarded, particularly in television. She’s most known for being on The Sopranos and being the series lead in Nurse Jackie.

Dr. Ian Garvin: Jemaine Clement

Jemaine Clement as Dr Ian Garvin in Avatar 2.Disney

Dr Ian Garvin is introduced in The Way of Water and is a marine biologist obsessed with Pandora. Played by Jemaine Clement, Garvin is expected to have a bigger role in the new movies as they come out.

You may have seen Clement in What We Do in the Shadows, or recognize him from Men in Black 3. He’s most known for his voice acting and has been in the likes of Moana and DC’s Super Pets.
