It’s time to build a snowman because Elsa and Anna are teaming up for another snowstorm adventure. Director Jennifer Lee shared updates in August 2024, including Disney lining up the Frozen 3 release date, so here’s what we know.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that a third Frozen movie and several other new movies were in development in November 2023 at the House of Mouse, but the timing of the threequel has shifted since.
Luckily, filmmaker Lee’s D23 2024 presentation provided some encouraging clarity, as well as how Frozen 3 will tie into Frozen 4.
From the concept art shared, it looks like we’re heading for a two-parter story, potentially to end Anna and Elsa’s run and send the sisters off into the sunset.
Frozen 3 release date
Frozen 3 will arrive on November 24, 2027. Just in time for Thanksgiving!

D23 confirmed the window of 2027, but an exact date wasn’t given at the time. Frozen 3 was presumed to take Disney’s November 24, 2027 date, which the studio had on hold. Frozen movies have traditionally been released around Thanksgiving in the US, and that pattern will continue.
What could the plot be?
There’s no detailed plot information but Lee shared that “there were a lot of questions coming out of Frozen 2,” and that “it will take two films to answer them.” This indicates Frozen 3’s narrative will lead into 4.

There also seems to be the shadow of the next big bad in the bottom right holding a spear.
With Anna becoming queen at the end of Frozen 2, the upcoming animated movie may cover the responsibilities and troubles she has in this role, as well as her marriage to Kristoff.
As for Elsa, who ended the last film by becoming the protector of the enchanted forest and the Northuldran people, we’ll have to see if these new roles cause the sisters to butt heads.
Furthermore, since Frozen 1 was set during summer — and the eternal winter that Elsa accidentally created — and Frozen 2 was set during autumn, we’ll have to see if the third film will be set in another season, such as spring.
Cast
Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad have all confirmed their return for the upcoming threequel.

In an interview with Billboard, Menzel said, “All I know is, yeah we are gonna make one, and that’s it. So, I’m like cool I will be able to pay my bills.”
Gad wrote that he was “Excited to head back… into the Unknown.” on X in February 2023.

We also expect the return of Jonathan Groff’s Kristoff, Martha Plimpton, Sterling K. Brown, Alfred Molina, Jason Ritter, and Rachel Matthews to reappear after being in Frozen 2.
Is there a Frozen 3 trailer?
There is currently no trailer or promotional footage for Frozen 3.
The only imagery we have so far is the above concept art from D23.
How to watch
Frozen 3 will be a theatrical exclusive in 2027 before later streaming on Disney+ at an unconfirmed date.

Who’s directing?
Chris Buck is directing Frozen 3.
The first two Frozen films were co-directed by Buck and Lee. She is now the chief creative offer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, so is producing.
Songwriting couple Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez were behind the songs and music of the first two films, so the pair will likely work on the third.
