Following rumors of an epic runtime, we now know the length of the video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s, and it’s going to be much more manageable, especially for those who like their horror movies (relatively) short and sweet.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is one of the most eagerly anticipated horror movies of the year. Based on the beloved video game of the same name – which launched back in 2014 – the film is being made by acclaimed horror studio Blumhouse. Meaning expectations are sky-high.
Emma Tammi directs from a script she wrote with Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback. While the cast includes Josh Huctcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Matthew Lillard, and Piper Rubio.
Thanks to a posting on cinema website AMC, we now know the length of the movie.
How long is Five Nights at Freddy’s?
According to the AMC website, Fight Nights at Freddy’s is 1 hour and 50 minutes long. That’s much less than the 3 hour runtime that was rumored a few weeks ago, and seems much more in-keeping with the length of a fun horror movie.

The website also features a synopsis for the movie: “Can you survive five nights? The terrifying horror game phenomenon becomes a blood-chilling cinematic event, as Blumhouse – the producer of M3GAN, The Black Phone and The Invisible Man – brings Five Nights at Freddy’s to the big screen. The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.”
We also recently learned that Five Nights at Freddy’s has been awarded a PG-13 rating from the MPAA, for “strong violent content, blood images, and language.” Which is perhaps unsurprising, as the source material is also pretty hardcore.
Five Nights at Freddy’s is set to premiere in theaters and on Peacock on October 27, 2023 in the US. While UK audiences will get to see it a couple of days before that, on October 25, 2023.
