Timothée Chalamet has been given a standing ovation from fans for his role as Paul Atreides in Dune 2 – with many left with chills over one particular scene.
Denis Villeneuve’s vision has come to life in Dune 2, and it’s been hailed cinematic marvels of the year. Chalamet reprises his role as Paul Atreides and continues the story of his character’s role as the Fremen prophet and seeking revenge against the Harkonnens.
Dune was only the beginning of Paul’s story, as the sequel unleashes the crux of what will become of him as the Lisan Al’Gaib. The movie has undoubtedly further cemented Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Austin Butler as great Hollywood actors.
But fans were left astounded by one particular scene in Dune 2 by Chalament that is not only Oscar-worthy but tagged as the best in the entire movie. Spoilers to follow…
Timothée Chalamet becomes a messiah in Dune 2
To protect the Fremen and their future, Paul has no choice but to truly become the Lisan Al’Gaib, drink the Water of Life, and prove to the fundamentalists that he will lead them to paradise.
A pinnacle moment occurs when Paul survives the toxins of the Water of Life. Lethal to men, he survives with Chani’s help and fulfills the prophecy of the Fremen’s messiah. The Water of Life has given him the prescience – the ability to see the past, present, and future. He also wields centuries of female and male memories. To the Bene Gesserit, he’s an abomination.
Paul continues to set out his plan and visits the sietch of the south. But not being a leader of the Fremen, he’s warned he must kill Stilgar for the honor of speaking. Now endowed with greater purpose, Paul refuses and addresses hundreds in their native language.
But one Fremen doesn’t believe him to be the messiah. Paul uses his new gifts to speak to the Fremen and tell him of his past, his grandmother, and his family. Details only the Lisan al Gaib would know.
The scene performed by Chalament has taken hold of fans, described as riveting, chilling, jaw-dropping, and a true depiction of the actor’s abilities.

“These two scenes man, such an insane performance from Timothee for someone so young. Even seasoned actors might miss looking and sounding as menacing and comandeering as he did. I will get you that Oscar myself,” said another.
One fan got literal chills having said, “‘Fear the moment.’ The chills I got during this scene. Timothée Chalamet was so believable. A skillful combination of fear and awe-inspiring charisma.”
Praise for the actor due to the scene led one fan to comment, “RDJ was born to play Tony Stark, Heath Ledger was born to play the Joker, Harrison Ford was born to play Indiana Jones… and Timothee Chalamet was born to play Paul Atreides.”
Chalamet is likely to return as Paul in Dune 3 and continue a new chapter of the character’s story.
