Dune 2 director Denis Villeneuve has been receiving praise for helping to fulfill a dying fan’s wish.
Dune: Part Two continues to take the world by sandstorm thanks to its gorgeous cinematography and impeccable character performances.
The movie — which acts as a direct sequel to the 2021 sci-fi epic — follows Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), Chani (Zendaya), and the Fremen people as they wage a war against the Emperor and House of Harkonnen.
While the movie has received nothing but glowing reviews since it premiered, one fan got to see the anticipated sequel as a dying wish, which was granted by Dune 2’s director Denis Villeneuve.
Villeneuve honors Dune fan’s dying wish to see sequel
A man from Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec — the same providence Villeneuve is from — reached out to the company L’Avant, who specialize in accompanying people at the of their life, with the wish to see Dune: Part Two before it premiered.
According to CBC, Villeneuve and his wife/producer, Tanya Lapointe, immediately granted the wish and told L’Avant founder Josée Gagnon that they wanted to fly the man to the premiere in Los Angeles, but Gagnon explained that he was too close to death, so he could not be moved from his place at his care center.
So, in order to fulfill the man’s last Earthly request, Villeneuve sent his assistant to the care center with Dune: Part Two on a laptop for the man to watch.

“They locked themselves in a room at the Maison de soins palliatifs… and this man managed to watch the film on his own,” said Gagnon. Unfortunately, the man fell asleep and later passed away before watching the end of the movie.
While the couple was a bit disappointed that he didn’t get to see the climatic ending, Gagnon told them, “You don’t understand, it’s extraordinary what this man went through. The end of a film when you’re going to die, it doesn’t mean anything … it was all there for him.”
“[Villeneuve and Lapointe] said, ‘It’s for him, it’s for that man that we make films, it’s for the guy who said before he died, I want to see that film.”
