A new report has confirmed that Marvel’s upcoming Avengers 5 will no longer be titled Kang Dynasty, and fans already have a replacement in mind.

While Avengers 5 has long since been prepped as the upcoming climax of the Kang storyline, it looks like plans have changed over at Marvel Studios.

After being found guilty of assaulting a former partner in 2023, Kang actor Jonathan Majors was dropped from the MCU. Having already laid the groundwork for his character across newly released Marvel movies and shows, this threw the upcoming slate into chaos.

Fans speculated about the studio’s next move, and it looks like we finally have an answer on the future of Avengers 5, aka The Kang Dynasty.

Avengers 5 drops Kang Dynasty title

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Avengers 5 will no longer be titled The Kang Dynasty following the firing of Jonathan Majors as the character.

This will be no surprise to followers of Marvel since it quickly became clear following the Majors controversy that it would be near-impossible for Marvel to feature his character without recasting or minimizing his role. Ultimately, it appears they’ve opted to move away from the concept of Kang altogether.

“Marvel dropped Majors hours after the conviction and is rewriting those movies, which will now either minimize the character or excise him entirely,” wrote THR.“The first of the new Avengers movies, due out in 2026, was initially titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty but will be getting a new title to remove the character’s name, though sources say that even before Majors’ conviction, the studio was making moves to minimize the character after Quantumania underperformed, grossing $476 million.”

This will result in a major Marvel rewrite going forward, since Kang had already been set up as the new big bad. In the same way Thanos was built up across countless Marvel projects to the major two-part climax in Phase 3, Kang was due an explosive payoff.

Marvel fans prepare for Doom

Responding to the news, fans hardly seemed shocked. In fact, many admitted to thinking this would happen for a while, even suggesting which villains could take his place going forward, with Doctor Doom being the main contender.

“Wasn’t surprised one bit,” one X user wrote.

“Dr. Doom is about to save the MCU,” said another.

Another response said: “Kang was never (on-screen) a compelling villain to carry the franchise.”

“Enter Dr Victor Von Doom,” one comment said.

Doom seems to be a popular choice among fans, despite the fact that Galactus is the confirmed villain for the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. Time will tell which fictional villain is stepping up to the plate to replace Kang, but one thing’s for sure: Marvel has a lot of work ahead of them.
