We’re still waiting for a Yellowstone 6666 release date – in the meantime, here’s everything we know about Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming spinoff.
Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 is now over, and Duttonverse fans will need more cowboy content to keep them occupied.
Luckily, 6666 stands as one of multiple Yellowstone replacements in the offing. With it comes the likely return of a key Yellowstone cast member, a story taking place in a new state, and the expansion of Sheridan’s Yellowstone timeline.
So, what is Yellowstone 6666 about, when’s it likely to arrive, and how does it relate to the world of the Duttons?
Is there a Yellowstone 6666 release date?
There’s no confirmed release date for 6666 yet, and development on the show was delayed across 2023. Despite an earlier listing claiming it’d drop this year, it won’t be released until 2025.
There’s not been much word on 6666 in recent months, though, given all Sheridan’s attention was on Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2. Plus, there was 1923 Season 2 and Landman to think about, too, as well as 1944 and The Madison. He’s got a lot on his plate.
Things were also halted during the 2023 writers and actors strikes. IMDb lists the series as having a 2024 start date, but with no word on production starting, we’d take this information with a pinch of salt until Sheridan or Paramount confirm a release window themselves.
6666 was announced back in 2021. In a statement, CEO of 101 Studios David Glasser said: “Taylor, Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios have been incredible partners to us at 101 over the years. Together, we have been able to build Yellowstone into an immersive universe for audiences globally. And that is what we intend to do with these series as well.
“We will be introducing new characters and storylines alongside world-class talent and creators. We are very much looking forward to bringing these shows to life.”
Yellowstone 6666 cast speculation
While the cast of the 6666 Yellowstone spinoff hasn’t been confirmed, we can expect Jefferson White to star as Jimmy following the events of Yellowstone.
He was sent to the Four Sixes ranch in Season 4 after suffering a rodeo injury. The 6666 ranch is known as where “cowboying was invented.” It was here that he honed his skills as a cowboy, developed his work ethic, and met his now-fiancée, Emily.
By the time Season 5 Part 2 came around, Jimmy was a well-versed cowboy who’d settled into the new ranch. Taylor Sheridan’s Travis then took him on the road again to help him sell off the Dutton’s horses.
Jimmy returned in the final episodes alongside Emily, and in the finale, he’s helping Travis out at the Bosque Ranch. Teeter also asks Travis for a job, so it’s very likely we’ll be seeing Jennifer Landon again.

As such, White is almost a sure thing, alongside Kathryn Kelly who plays Emily. (And, whether we like it or not, Taylor Sheridan as Travis.) Because this is a Yellowstone spinoff, we’re also expecting a few cameos from other Yellowstone cast members, with the most likely suspects being fellow ranch hands who Jimmy bunked with at the Dutton Ranch.
What will it be about?
Yellowstone 6666 will delve into the rich history of West Texas and the ranch way of life, exploring the ruthless way of life for ranchers there, and the 6666’s status in cowboy culture.
The series “takes place when Comanches still ruled West Texas and no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666.”
“Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing,” the synopsis reads.
“The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world-class cowboys are born and made.”
Sounds like a Western show through and through!
While the 6666 ranch is steeped in history, Sheridan has a personal connection to it, too. In 2023, he put that Paramount money to good use and bought the ranch. “Being a Texan today and what it means to live in Texas — there’s a responsibility that comes with it, in that you really do represent the entire state,” he said, as per Entertainment Weekly.
“Everybody in Texas always represents the state. And so, there’s a sense of class and confidence that I think every Texan seems to embody. And along with that, a respect for others, regardless of whether they agree with you or not. You respect their ability to disagree or agree.”
Where to watch the 6666 Yellowstone spinoff
Unlike 1883 and 1923, both of which are available on Paramount+, 6666 will be exclusive to the Paramount Network.
It was originally reported that the show would air exclusively on Paramount+, joining the other spinoffs. However, it was confirmed in 2022 that 6666 would actually air episodes on cable television before landing on the streaming service afterwards.
