The Last of Us 2’s final gameplay footage could be released soon

Naughty Dog / Sony

Naughty Dog could well be building towards a final public gameplay reveal of The Last of Us Part 2, after showing a fresh demo to retailers.

The game developers have kept their cards very close to their chest since the E3 expo back in 2018, where they first revealed some gameplay while testing the patience of its fanbase with the absence of a release date.

While players have been treated to snippets of news in 2019 already, with Joel’s voice actor hinting on August 19 that his character may take an evil path in the next installment, retailers have already been given a closer look at the project behind closed doors.

Naughty DogFans have already seen some of The Last of Us 2’s gameplay, but more could soon be on the way.

How do we know about this, though? Well, a tweet from Gaming Forte shows that The Last of Us Part 2 was presented to an audience of GameStop managers on August 27.

This is the same event where Red Dead Redemption 2 featured in 2018 and, according to reports, there was a demo based on stealthy play showcased during the conference – possibly an extension from the gameplay already made public.

There doesn’t appear to have been any leaks come from the event, as of the time of writing, but the timeline of the showing does fit with a previous leak, posted to both 4Chan and NeoGaf

This leak suggested that Sony were planning on giving fans one last look at the game during their November 1 State of Play livestream, and now that a demo has been shown to GameStop managers, this could be the first sign that this was indeed accurate.

As is the case with many high profile video game projects, it’s easy to get carried away with leaks and possibilities, but it should be noted nothing has yet been confirmed by developers.

Even though these are promising signs, just like the release date, fans will have to wait and see.
