Samsung has silently announced the Galaxy Watch FE – almost a month ahead of its anticipated launch at the Galaxy Unpacked event.

The Watch FE offers a flagship experience at an affordable price, similar to the other FE series products from the company, including smartphones and earbuds.

Samsung says the Galaxy Watch FE includes sensors, fitness features, and specifications similar to one of its flagship smartwatches. however, there are obvious trade-offs to keep the price in check.

Samsung Galaxy Watch FE: Where to buy

The Samsung Galaxy Watch can be bought from Samsung’s website starting June 24. It is expected to be made available via other platforms like Amazon, Best Buy, and others closer to availability.

The price of the Samsung Galaxy FE (Bluetooth version) starts at $199.99, and the LTE version will retail for $249.99. 

At this price, the Watch FE is at least $100 cheaper than the Galaxy Watch 6 but still borrows a lot of features from the flagship smartwatch.

The Bluetooth version of the watch will start retailing from June 24 onwards, while the LTE version will be available from October 2024.

This wallet-friendly Galaxy Watch comes in three colorways – black, pink, or gold. It sports a circular design like the Galaxy Watch 6 but doesn’t have the rotating bezel that the Watch 6 Classic has.

Unlike other Galaxy Watches, the FE comes in a sole 40mm size option. To personalize the watch, Samsung has announced a new one-click watch band with blue and orange stitching and new watch faces. The Watch FE has a Sapphire Crystal glass face to protect against scratches and smudges.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Watch FE has an Exynos W920 processor with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. This is the same chipset that powered the Galaxy Watch 5. The display on the Watch FE measures 1.2 inches and is slightly smaller than the 1.3-inch display on the Galaxy Watch 6.

The Galaxy Watch FE has an array of health and fitness sensors. It can help track over 100 workouts, including an advanced running analysis. Samsung says, that this not only helps maximize efficiency but can also provide insights and guidance to help prevent injuries.

The Watch FE also has electrocardiogram monitoring and can look for signs of irregular heart rhythms and atrial fibrillation. Additionally, the Watch FE has sleep tracking and body composition features. It also has heart-rate monitoring and ECG; however, the results will not be as detailed as those of Watch 6.

However, Galaxy Watch FE misses the temperature sensors, blood oxygen, and blood pressure monitoring of its higher-end siblings. It is IP68-rated for dust and water resistance and runs on WearOS by Google. The Watch FE has Find My Phone and Samsung Wallet and can remotely control the camera of your compatible Samsung smartphone.

Should you buy the Galaxy Watch FE?

The Galaxy Watch FE offers a balance of price, performance, and features. While Samsung is offering a slew of AI-powered features, it misses out on some important sensors.

That said, at a starting price of $200, it is cheaper than the Galaxy Watch 6 and still offers almost all the features. If you’re tight on budget and are looking for a new smartwatch to pair with your Samsung device, the Galaxy Watch FE could be perfect for you.

However, if you want a bigger watch with more storage and features like temperature sensors, blood oxygen, and blood pressure monitoring are essential, then you can choose the Galaxy Watch 6, or better yet, wait for the Watch 7.
