Galaxy S24 UltraSamsung

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is set to be Samsung’s next top flagship device. While it may not debut before 2025, here’s what the leaks and rumors suggest about the phone.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 Ultra back in January 2024. It debuted as the brand’s top-of-the-line flagship, featuring a powerful processor, large battery, and an impressive camera system. Samsung also leveled the playing field with Apple by including a Titanium build and with Google by promising seven years of software updates.

The S25 Ultra could be even better. You can expect a brand-new processor, a revamped camera system, and an even better display. Samsung might also keep putting a big focus on artificial intelligence features, just like it did with the S24 Ultra.

Release timeline speculation

Samsung may announce the Galaxy S25 Ultra in the first quarter of 2025. The Korean company is pretty consistent with the S series launches. The S24 Ultra debuted in January 2024 while the S23 Ultra was announced in February 2023.

The S22 Ultra also made its debut in February. Expect the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s launch in January or February next year.

Expected price

Galaxy ModelStarting Price (USD)
S25 Ultra$1,299 (Speculated)
S24 Ultra$1,299
S23 Ultra$1,199
S22 Ultra$1,199

The Galaxy S24 Ultra was announced with a $100 price bump, while the S23 Ultra and S22 Ultra both debuted with a starting price of $1,999. It’s unlikely that we’ll see another price increase, so the S25 Ultra may start at $1299.

Design

Samsung made a bold change this year by equipping the Galaxy S24 Ultra with a flat screen and trimmed bezels. However, it still looks pretty similar to last-gen models.

That might change with the S25 Ultra. Sammobile, citing tipster Revegnus, claims Ilhwan Lee, the Design Team Leader of the MX (Mobile eXperience) division, has been tasked with giving the 2025 flagship Galaxy models a “fresh” feel.

Popular South Korean tipster yeux1122 made similar claims. The tipster suggests changes will be made throughout the S25 lineup; however, they didn’t detail what specific changes to expect.

Tipster Ice Universe claims the S25 Ultra will lose its rectangular design with pointy corners. Instead, the smartphone will feature rounded corners that will not dig into your palms, making the phone more comfortable to hold for extended periods. The tipster added that the phone’s panel would have rounded corners as well.

Leaker Ice Universe says the Galaxy S25 Ultra will be “the thinnest and lightest of all Ultra flagship phones,” which means it could be slimmer and lighter than any previous S Ultra models. They even claim it will beat the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pixel 9 Pro XL in these categories.

For reference, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is rumored to be 163 x 77.6 x 8.3 mm and 225 g, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL might be 162.8 x 76.6 x 8.5 mm and 221 g. However, Ice Universe didn’t share the exact size and weight of the S25 Ultra.

Display rumors

As for the display, the S25 Ultra may see a minor increase in size. It’s expected to be in line with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is rumored to have a 6.9-inch display. However, Samsung Mobile Experience (MX) VP Daniel Araujo has claimed that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will offer “top-of-the-line” upgrades in display department.

“For camera and display specs in particular, where we’ve been leading, the S25 at launch will have top-of-the-line upgrades. And we’re also preparing industry-best APs and memory to boost AI performance and offer an overall premium experience,” he said.

For reference, the S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch display. The underlying tech may remain the same. You might see an AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung may bump the brightness of the panel.

Camera specs speculations

Samsung puts a lot of effort into making the Galaxy Sx Ultra models the best Android phones. The majority of this effort goes into polishing the cameras.

Known tipster Ice Universe suggests that the Galaxy S25 Ultra may have a massively improved camera module. According to Ice Universe, the quad camera module on the upcoming flagship phone may include a 200 MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP super-telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

These upgrades are expected to improve low-light photography, offer detailed close-up shots, and add 8K video shooting capabilities to all the camera sensors on the phone.

Another leak suggests that the phone may only come with a triple camera setup, and Samsung may upgrade the processing capabilities of the primary 200 MP snapper to capture detailed close-up shots.

Also, it is rumored that Samsung is working on a new 1-inch ISOCELL sensor with 0.8µm pixels, dual-pixel autofocus, and in-sensor crop zoom. This sensor is expected to ship with an upcoming flagship device, the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

X user @ISAQUES81 claims the S25 Ultra will have a new version of Samsung’s 1/2.76″ ISOCELL JN1 sensor, smaller than the one in the S24 Ultra and has a 50 MP resolution.

The 3x zoom telephoto camera will sport a new, bigger 1/3″ Samsung ISOCELL sensor. This is a step up from the sensor in the Galaxy S24 Ultra and matches the resolution of the S25 Ultra’s ultrawide camera at 50MP.

The S24 Ultra debuted with quite a few camera sensors on the back. A 200MP main shooter leads the charge, followed by a 50MP periscope lens, 10MP telephoto sensor, and 12MP ultrawide camera. Other flagships, such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max and OnePlus 12, stick to the three cameras.

The S25 Ultra may stick to the same main camera, according to a Revegnus. Details about the other three cameras are not known at the moment.

Performance

There are a lot of rumors about the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s processor. One rumor from March 2024 suggests the S25 Ultra will be powered by an Exynos processor. It won’t get a Snapdragon chipset in any region.

Notably, the last two Ultra models have been powered solely by Qualcomm processors. Those who buy the Galaxy S24 or S24 Plus in Europe, the UK, India, and other regions receive the Exynos 2400 for Galaxy.

An April 2 report from Digitimes claims Samsung Galaxy S25 will “sustain dual-track AP system with Exynos 2500 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.”

A rumor out of Korea refutes both the above reports, claiming the company is thinking about using MediaTek Dimensity chips for the Galaxy S25 family, including Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Specifically, Samsung is considering using MediaTek Dimensity chips, likely the Dimensity 9400, alongside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and its own Exynos 2500 processor. This means the phone could come with three different processors depending on the market.

This move is rumored to be because Qualcomm is charging more for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, and Samsung is having problems producing enough of their Exynos 2500 chip.

If the smartphone ends up with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, you can expect it to offer Apple M3-level performance. On Geekbench 6, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 obtained a single-core and multi-core score of 2,845 and 10,628, respectively.

That’s almost as good as Apple M3, which receives a single-core and multi-core score of 2,985 and 10,762, respectively.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra may also debut with faster RAM and increased capacity. According to Ajunews, Samsung is hard at work mass-producing LPDDR6 RAM. If production stays on track, the S25 Ultra may benefit from this newer RAM technology.

Sawyer Galox, a frequent Samsung leaker, claimed the S25 Ultra will be available with either 12GB or 16GB of RAM. The S24 Ultra is only offered with 12GB of RAM.

The smartphone will essentially have the same battery and charging specs as its predecessor. According to a leak from Digital Chat Station, it will feature a 5,000mAh battery and 45W charging speed.
