Snapchat allows you to quickly identify music using the music recognition app Shazam. Here’s everything you need to know about how to use it.
This integration allows users to discover songs without downloading Shazam or creating an account for it. For Snapchatters, this means turning the app into a social media multitool.
How to Shazam on Snapchat
- Open Snapchat
- Press and hold anywhere on the camera screen when music is playing around you
- Snapchat will now activate its built-in Shazam feature
- Within a few seconds, it should identify the song
- Once identified, you will be presented with the song’s title, an option to listen to the whole song on a streaming app (Listen), and the Song Info option for more details about the music and artist
- Clicking the Song Info option lets you see the lyrics
Shazam and share using Snapchat
To share your newfound musical gem with friends or followers on Snapchat, follow the process below:
- Tap the three dots menu.
- Select Snapchat from the list.
- Select the friends from the contact list and share.
This feature lets you share the song within the messaging app, showcasing your discovery and potentially introducing others to new music.
Shazam does not appear on Snapchat
While Shazam is now a built-in feature for both Android and iPhones, there is a possibility that you may not be able to Shazam songs on Snapchat. If you have this problem, make sure that you have the latest version of Snapchat.

Shazam is not identifying the songs
If you have Snapchat installed, and Shazam is working, and can’t identify songs for you, try moving closer to the source of the music to ensure that background noise doesn’t interfere.
If that’s not an issue, check your device’s settings. There is a possibility that the Snapchat application doesn’t have permission to access the device’s mic. Once permissions are granted, Snapchat can identify the song via the mic.
