Twitter verification is one of the most sought after features of the app but Elon Musk’s takeover of the company has changed the verification process quite a bit. Here are some tips on how to get verified.
If there’s one thing that used to make you stand out from the rest of Twitter’s extensive user base, it was that little blue and white check mark.
However, after Elon Musk officially became the owner and CEO of Twitter on October 27, 2022, the platform swiftly introduced some big changes to the verification process.
That means that those users who were verified through the previous method before November 9, 2022, may end up losing their checkmark over time. Here’s how Twitter users in 2022 and beyond can get the Verification Badge on their Twitter profile.
Can I get verified on Twitter?
The short answer is yes: you can get verified on Twitter. Thanks to Musk’s recent changes any Twitter user can receive a Verification Badge for their profile.
However, instead of going through the old Twitter verification process, users must now subscribe to Twitter Blue for $8 a month in order to receive a Verification Badge.
In reality, that’s everything a Twitter user in 2022 at the time of writing has to do to be verified. Yet, there are still a few important things that both new and old verified users need to remember going forward.

Losing Twitter verification
For those users verified before November 9, 2022, the official Twitter Help blog post regarding verification states: “Legacy verified accounts also may be taken away at any time for any reason at all by Twitter, including as the result of certain types of violations of the Twitter Rules, including but not limited to our rules around spam, ban evasion, and Impersonation.”
“In addition, legacy verified accounts are still subject to the guidelines outlined in the “Loss of Verified Status” section of the previous policy.
Additionally, Twitter is no longer accepting verification applications using its previous criteria, meaning Twitter Blue is the only way to get a Verification Badge.
It’s also important to remember that Twitter Blue subscribers can still lose their blue checkmark if they violate Twitter’s rules as well. In particular, those who participate in spam, ban evasion, and impersonation may have their Badge removed.
Finally, all Twitter Blue subscribers who fail to renew their subscriptions will eventually lose their blue checkmark as well.
So that’s it for getting verified on Twitter in 2022! If you need some further clarity, there’s an extensive list of requirements available here.
