Asus ROG Ally Z1 vs Z1 Extreme

With the Asus ROG Ally, there’s one major decision you should make when looking at making the purchase. Asus released the handheld with two CPU options, the AMD Ryzen Z1 and AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme.

While they’re both suitable for indie titles and older games, the Z1 Extreme is going to offer much better performance for anyone looking to run anything released since about 2022. This is largely thanks to the improved integrated GPU in the Z1 Extreme.

The Z1 Extreme is around 35% faster than the regular Z1 processor and is well worth the investment into the more expensive model.

Outside of the different processors, both models of the Asus ROG Ally are identical. It comes with a 7″ IPS screen at 1080p and even features a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth performance.

There’s 512GB of storage in the SSD, which should be plenty to get you started, but just like the Steam Deck, you can upgrade the handheld with either a whole new NVME drive or even a MicroSD card like the 1.5TB option from SanDisk.
