Looking for where to buy the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX? We’ve got you covered with everything that you need to know and more.

AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX is amongst AMD’s most capable graphics cards. But when you look at the specs, it’s priced significantly lower than an RTX 4090, making AMD’s flagship a serious contender.

The RDNA 3 graphics card is built on the Navi 31 chip, showcasing a chipset-style MCM design and a 3D V-cache that mirrors AMD’s CPU approach.

Launched alongside the slightly less powerful RX 7900 XT, this sub-$1000 GPU takes on Nvidia’s heavyweights. Either way, it’s a win for gamers seeking top-tier performance without breaking the bank.

Where to buy the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX

AMD’s RX 7900 XTX was released for $999 on December 13, 2022. You will be able to find the GPU at all good PC component stores. Expect the likes of Best Buy and Amazon to have a healthy stock of the graphics card upon its launch.

We expect that this one will be slightly more difficult to get than the RX 7900 XT, due to being slightly more powerful for only $100 more.

    • When was the AMD RX 7900 XTX released?

The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX was released on December 13, 2022. The GPU was announced at AMD’s press event on November 3. The GPU was met with applause from the audience as AMD managed to announce the GPU at an extremely competitive price. Though, it appears to be poised to take on the RTX 4080, instead of the RTX 4090.

It will come slightly after Nvidia’s graphics card launches, but it appears that AMD will still manage to get new GPUs out of the door before 2023.

How much is the AMD RX 7900 XTX?

The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX costs $999. This is slightly less expensive than we anticipated. Currently, AMD manages to undercut both the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 16GB, while offering great performance.

This is a $600 decrease when compared to Nvidia’s RTX 4090 behemoth. However, it’s also slightly less powerful. However, where this strategic pricing will really come into play is when both companies announce their mid-range graphics card options.

The price war could be interesting, as Nvidia could be forced to lower the price of their $1199 RTX 4080, or even go back to the drawing board for the pricing of its current lineup of graphics cards.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX specs

The Radeon RX 7900 XTX features AMD’s top-shelf Navi 31 chip, which will be split between the XT and XTX variants. The XTX model will feature more VRAM, and more cores, and be just that bit faster than the vanilla RX 7900 XT. For $100 more.

One thing to note is that the TBP requirements of both cards have increased slightly. However, you won’t need to rush out and purchase a new power supply, as these cards do not use the new 12VHPWR connector, as the Nvidia RTX 40-series cards have done, and as we have seen increasing amounts of RTX 4090s melting due to incorrect insertion.

Additionally, the GPU also uses DisplayPort 2.1, which is a meaningful upgrade that will allow you to reach higher framerates at higher resolutions than before. This is also something notably absent from the RTX 4080 and 4090.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX benchmarks

      RX 7900 XTX benchmarksAMD

AMD has released benchmarks for the RX 7900 XTX. The card is around 1.7x faster than their previous flagship, the RX 6950 XT. AMD also showed off a few titles with the RX 7900 XTX running at 4K resolution.

      • Hitman 3: 275 FPS (FSR)
      • Modern Warfare 2: 306 FPS (FSR)
      • F1 2022: 353 FPS (FSR)
      • Apex Legends: 295 FPS
      • Overwatch 2: 355 FPS
      • Valorant: 704 FPS
      • Additionally, the ray tracing performance of Radeon’s graphics cards isn’t quite up to scratch when compared to the RTX 40-series, despite a marked increase in performance compared to AMD’s previous-generation cards.

Radeon RX 7900 XTX vs RTX 4090: Which is faster?

the RTX 4090 is faster than the RX 7900 XTX by quite a wide margin. AMD’s RX 7900 XTX is not as fast as Nvidia’s green giant. Instead, AMD’s flagship is competitive with the RTX 4080 16GB. Though, as we mentioned previously, the RX 7900 XTX will be notably slower when under ray-traced workloads.

        Article continues after ad

The RTX 4090 retains its power crown for now, and we expect this to be the case for quite some time until we get a refresh of these new-generation graphics cards. However, make no mistake. The RTX 4090 is the fastest consumer GPU out there, and not many people will actually be making much use of its titanic power.

It should also be noted that AMD’s graphics cards may be powerful, but they lack the software experience of Nvidia. That is to say, you will be missing out on features like Reflex, DLSS, Broadcast, and more. AMD is due to launch a new version of FSR in order to stay competitive with DLSS, however.

Are AMD graphics cards worth it?

AMD GPUs are just as capable in terms of rasterization performance as Nvidia’s counterparts. AMD graphics cards usually undercut Nvidia GPUs too. Meaning, that you will be able to get almost equivalent performance in some games regardless of whether you go Team Red or Team Green. However, this does come with somewhat of an asterisk.

Additionally, AMD’s drivers have proven to mature over time, this often means that in the long run, the GPU will get better over time, rather than at launch. We previously saw this in AMD’s older generation of graphics cards. However, they also struggle to keep up with Nvidia’s AI features. DLSS can increase performance dramatically, while FSR just isn’t quite as good.

Ultimately, you’re still going to get great raw performance, but some of the trimmings such as software can be a little bit lacking by comparison.
