One Starfield player with more than 200 hours of gameplay has just uncovered a game-changing way to unlock containers in the game.

Bethesda’s Starfield offers players a plethora of challenges and mechanics to explore. Among these is the art of lockpicking containers, a skill that can yield valuable rewards such as items, credits, and even secrets.

However, it seems that Starfield players can bypass the entire lockpicking mechanic simply by asking nearby NPCs to unlock containers for them.

One player took to Reddit to share this discovery. In a post titled, “220 hours in and I just learned you can manipulate people into opening locked containers for you,” the player showcased gameplay footage that left the Starfield community in awe.

In the video clip, the player can be seen looking at a locked container. Instead of using traditional lockpicking methods to open the container and bag the goods sneakily, the player approaches a nearby Ryujin Security NPC and opts to use the “Manipulation” skill.

This clever move tricks the NPC into opening the locked container on their behalf. As the player watches, the NPC rushes over to unlock the container, revealing its contents: a Naval Cutlass, 1262 credits, and other miscellaneous items.

The revelation took the Starfield community by storm. Players were quick to react, with one commenting, “I just learned this from your video.” Another player, clearly taken aback, asked, “This is what manipulation and diplomacy perks do???” highlighting the surprise at the newfound use of these in-game perks.

Perhaps the most amusing response came from a player who remarked, “Best way to steal s**t without being seen is to make others do it for you.” The original poster humorously replied, “If I make security do it, it’s not illegal.”

So, next time you want to break into a locked container, save your Digipicks and just ask a nearby NPC to do the dirty work for you.
