The latest Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 update lets players access a dev menu that seems to reveal a major villain for an as-of-yet unannounced DLC.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 just got a long-awaited update that adds New Game Plus, new suits, additional accessibility options and more to the superhero adventure.

However, the recent patch adds far more than developer Insomniac Studios intended.

Following the update, players have found they can pretty easily access the game’s dev menu, and examining its contents reveals some key details about an unannounced DLC storyline.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 dev menu reveals possible DLC

As spotted by Reddit user rodviguez, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s dev menu includes a page for “Beetle Villain Arc,” indicating that the first wave of DLC for the game will focus on the Janice Lincoln incarnation of Beetle.

While no DLC has been announced for the game so far, this does corroborate information that was stolen from Insomniac in a massive ransomware leak last December.

Beetle isn’t nearly as well-known as other Spider-Man villains, but she does have connections to the game series.

Janice is the daughter of Lonnie Lincoln, better known as Tombstone, who appears in both Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequel. This gives the game some clear paths for introducing Beetle.

Insomniac has responded to the situation, warning players on Twitter that using the dev menu “could corrupt your saves and trophy progress.”

The tweet also reveals a hotfix is in the works, which will remove the unintended access, though no date was given for that update.

This error is another unfortunate situation for the developer, which has had a very rough couple of months. In addition to the aforementioned leaks, which included both creative plans and employee information, the studio was impacted by the recent Sony layoffs.

Though these possible leaks show what DLC could look like, it’s important to note that this additional Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 content remains unconfirmed at this time.
