Super Smash Bros. Ultimate already boasts an awesome roster of over 70 playable fighters to play with, but there are some characters that we can’t help but feel should be added to the game in the future!
Nintendo is a gaming brand that’s not just associated with nostalgia and developing its very own selection of authentic video game characters, but they also have the passion to bring them into the future as well.
We’ve seen that with the games the developer have released so far on the Nintendo Switch, such as Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and others.
While Smash make a number of favorites from down the years available in the game right now, there are reportedly ten empty slots left in the game’s data files and here’s how we would go about filling them…
Waluigi
Waluigi has been a prominent figure in the Mario series across the years, with appearances in several famous games in the past such as Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, as well as a few spin-offs and we think that it’s very odd that he was not included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
This mischievous character is well-known to throw a tantrum when he is on the losing side of things and that would work well in a fighting game like this. One punch could just set him off and his Final Smash could be something related to that – maybe they could do something where he becomes stronger the more damage that he takes, which would be a quite interesting dynamic.
Nevertheless, get him in the game!
Crash Bandicoot
Crash Bandicoot fans undoubtedly had a great 2018. The N. Sane Trilogy was released by Activision initially on PlayStation platform in June of last year, but has since moved over to both Xbox and Nintendo Switch. So, why not bring him to Smash Bros?
After all, the character is built for this type of game. Whether it’s his spinning attacks, his leap or perhaps even throwing wumpa fruit during battle – this crafty character is a must for the future.
Banjo-Kazooie
Banjo-Kazooie has featured on Rare titles in recent years but the story and its characters date back to 1998 when it was first released on the Nintendo 64 console. Despite the age of the game, they’re still a very popular duo who would be widely appreciated if they were to be added to Smash.
Let’s face it, as a pair, they have everything to make a battle interesting and entertaining. You could have moves where Kazooie leaps off its partner’s back for a Final Smash, Banjo could use Kazooie as a weapon or they could even summon Gruntilda to come and help fend off their enemies in a shocking coming together of both good and evil. There are so many ways Nintendo could do this!
Koopa Troopa
Koopa Troopa is another character who regularly appears in the Mario series, yet somehow never made the cut for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
While the other characters put forward in this list might have a bit more of a backstory, let’s not forget how annoying Koopa Troopa can be in the Mario games.
Without trying to paint them out to be some sort of demonic character (which they’re clearly not), they have been the cause of many game overs since they first appeared in the original Super Mario Bros of 1985.
In terms of fighting style, this is where you would have to be creative. There have been many iterations of this character, whether it’s the one you see above where it can hide and spin in its shell, or with wings like a Paratroopa, showing they have many skills which could be brought to the game. It’s an iconic character and should definitely feature at some stage!
Doctor Eggman
It’s baffling that he’s not in the game already.
Not only would his showdowns with Sonic the Hedgehog be insane in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – having been a long-standing antagonist in those video games for quite some time – but Doctor Eggman has the size and power to take on any of the game’s top characters in battle.
His move-set could be very aggressive, as that would suit his persona, but also with a level of intelligence as well. Perhaps his Eggmobile could feature in fights as a Final Smash, come flying in and take out his opponents with pure power.
However, there have been so many different versions, such as Submarine Eggman, Water Eggman, Flying Eggman and others which would allow him to adapt to the battlefield with several vehicles. He could be a very creative addition to Smash for sure!
Rayman
Rayman is one of the best pure striking video game characters of all time, as most of the gameplay from the franchise is built on boxing moves – making him a perfect fit.

The character list so far has a number of strong fighters, but where Rayman would be set apart from the crowd is not only his punching blows, but also his impeccable speed. His Final Smash could simply be a huge KO punch, with a selection of interesting combinations to be done in general battle – utilizing his giant leap and potentially even quick headbutts.
Rayman is an agile character and one of the most well-known, having been around since 1995, so it would be great to see him finally feature among the elite of animated characters in Smash.
Lakitu
There are numerous different characters from the Super Mario franchise that worked solely to make sure your next ‘Game Over’ came around quicker than you might like, but this pesky green-shelled Koopa was one of the craftiest.
Hanging in the air, far from reach, Lakitu is known for dropping deadly surprises and that would be perfect for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s gameplay. His flying ability could be very similar to Kirby’s, allowing it to move away from dangerous easily and escape death by zooming back into battle on a cloud.
Best known for throwing Spinies, Lakitu could bring his abilities to Super Smash quite easily and join up with some of the lighter characters in the game – such as Pikachu, Ness and others. However, what would set this fighter apart from other smaller characters would be its ability to take to the sky more often than others.
Toad
Many characters of the Super Mario Bros franchise have already been added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, but that won’t stop fans wanting to see more and more keep appearing as the game develops.
Toad is one of Princess Peach’s most loyal assistants and while he might already be with Peach and Daisy in some capacity, he’s worthy of having his own playable fighting character slot.
After all, the beauty of Smash Bros is that some of the cutest and adorable characters are put into a situation they’ve never been in before. We would like to see if this seemingly innocent citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom has a dark side in battle.
Ratchet and Clank
Ratchet and Clank had an amazing 2018 by anyone’s standards, having been revitalised by Sony with a brand new remastered game and the creation of the story’s first ever movie. Why not allow the success story to pour over to 2019?
After all, these two characters come together as one to fight off the evils of the universe. Surely the challenge of taking down some of the fighters in Smash Bros would be right down their alley.
The only thing stopping the pair from potentially entering the battle arena is exclusivity, really. However, as we’ve seen with Crash Bandicoot – which was released on Nintendo Switch in June 2018 – if demand for the characters is high, there is room for things to happen.
Hopefully we’ll see the little mechanic and his companion going toe-to-toe with other fan favorites in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the future.
Goku
Finally, let’s throw a crossover into the mix that hasn’t been done before.
This one might be a bit of a stretch since most characters on the current Smash Bros. roster originated in a video game, but given Dragon Ball Z’s deep video game history, this could be a great addition!
As one of the most successful animes of all time, Dragon Ball Z has loads of fans all over the world who could easily be brought into the Smash Bros. fold with Goku’s inclusion in Ultimate. Given that Dragon Ball Z is all about fighting, putting Goku in Smash should be a no brainer.
Not only that, but Dragon Ball FighterZ is one of the biggest fighting games around at the moment, which could give Nintendo plenty to work with in terms of Goku’s move-set in Smash Ultimate.
Goku in Smash might never become a reality, but it would certainly be one of the most explosive additions to the Smash roster in quite some time!
