Niantic are keeping Pokemon Go trainers busy! Another bonus has been announced. Shiny Meltan is appearing in mystery boxes from February 5!
Shiny Meltan
On the back of the announcement of the Lunar New Year special event, Niantic have now confirmed shiny Meltan’s will be appearing. This is on top of the news that shiny variants of the pig Pokemon, Spoink will be more common.
The recently added mythical Pokemon, Meltan, appears when opening a mystery box. As part of this event, the time you need to wait to open a mystery box has been reduced to three days.
The mystery box, a feature introduced to Pokemon Go the same time Meltan was, is acquired by transferring a Pokemon from Go to the Nintendo Switch Pokemon game, Let’s Go. Once opened Meltan will spawn around you for a period of 30 minutes.
This means if you play your cards right you might be able to squeak out 10 attempts at getting the coveted Meltan shiny. If you’re lucky enough to do so that means you can get the even rarer Melmetal!

Meltan Event Date and Time
The shiny Meltan special event is live now. Therefore, it is wise to open a mystery box now to maximise the number of attempts!
The event will run all the way through to March 4 11:59 pm PST. That’s March 4, 7:59 pm for GMT players.
