What are Max Particles in Pokemon Go?

Max Particles or MP is an in-game resource players will need to constantly gather if they want to join the Max Battles inside the Power Spots. As stated above, every encounter will have a particular Max Particle cost that will vary. These will only be consumed if you successfully defeat the Max Battle Boss.

How to find Max Particles

Max Particles can be obtained using three different methods:

  • Interacting with Power Spots – 100 MP can be obtained per Power Spot daily.
  • Walking – 300 MP total can be obtained by walking 2 km daily.
  • Pokemon Go in-game Shop – MP can be purchased from the shop in two bundles: 150 PokeCoins for 800 MP and 425 PokeCoins for 2,400 MP.

The best way to grind Max Particles is by visiting Power Spots. Other methods limit how quickly MP can be earned, or cost players real money. Because of this, we would encourage players to stop and interact with every Power Spot they find.

What are Power Spots in Pokemon Go?

Power Spots are where Dynamax Pokemon are located. Power Spots appear on the map as new locations – they do not replace existing Gyms or PokeStops – and can be identified by a purple marker and a large ‘X’.

Unlike Gyms or PokeStops, these are temporary. These pots will shift around the map after a few days, depending on their timers.

Power Spots are where players must go if they want to join the turned-based Max Battles and capture Dynamax Pokemon. However, every encounter has a Max Particle. This amount is only detracted if the player successfully defeats the Pokemon featured.

  • Dynamax lasts for three turns.

Every Dynamax Pokemon caught has access to three Max Moves. All come with the offensive one, Max Strike. 400 Max Particles and 50 Candy can be exchanged to unlock each of the other two: the shielding move Max Guard or the healing move Max Spirit.

Besides participating in Max Battles and unlocking moves, players can use their Max Particles to enhance such Max Moves from Level 1 to Level 3:

Can you delete Max Particles in Pokemon Go?

No, you cannot delete Max Particles in Pokemon Go. At the time of writing, the only way to get rid of Max Particles is to use them. This can be to unlock new moves for your Dynamax Pokemon or to take part in Dynamax Battles.

The reason this is a problem is because Trainers cannot click on Power Spots to earn more Max Particles unless they have space for more. Several new Field Research tasks depend on earning Max Particles to be completed, so this is becoming an issue for many.

While it seems simple enough to use the Max Particles to unlock moves and make room for more, this also uses Candy from the Pokemon. So if Trainers either don’t want to use the Candy needed, or don’t want to give this Pokemon another Max Move (perhaps it’s not a strong Pokemon), it can be frustrating.

The other answer would be to increase your Max Particles storage, but right now that is not possible in Pokemon Go. While Trainers can purchase the MP Pack item which rewards players with 800 MP, there is no way to just hold a larger amount of Max Particles overall.
