Niantic is offering a code for free Pokemon Go items to all players ahead of this weekend’s Sinnoh Tour Global, but players aren’t happy with the reward or implementation.
Pokemon Go has a big weekend coming up, with Sinnoh Tour Global taking place February 24-25. The event celebrates Pokemon introduced in the Sinnoh and Hisui regions, such as the starters and Legendaries like Origin Forme Giratina.
To celebrate the event, Niantic has released a new promo code that players can redeem for some free rewards.
However, players are, to say the least, unhappy with the offer for a variety of reasons.

The code, GOTOURBONUS, will get players a free Silver Pinap Berry and Rare Candy. Those items on their own are useful, but the fact that Niantic is offering just one of each has players calling out the offer.
“If Niantic does this unironically, I’m genuinely wondering if the team/devs ever played the game..like imagine thinking that code’s worth 2 shits,” said one Reddit user.
“This code has to be a litmus test/social experiment. It’s like finding a penny on the ground – sure, it’s not worthless, but it’s nigh enough to useless as to not warrant the effort,” said another.

While it is a free gift, many have pointed out that the process for redeeming codes in Pokemon Go is more trouble than it’s worth, especially when the reward is so underwhelming.
Pokemon Go does not allow players to redeem codes in the app, instead requiring them to do so online. While Android players were previously able to redeem via the app, that feature was removed earlier this month.
Even still, some who went through the effort of attempting to get their berry and candy ran into issues. Several players have reported receiving messages that said the code was either invalid or they didn’t qualify for it.
This isn’t the only issue Pokemon Go Tour: Sinnoh has faced. Those who participated in the Los Angeles event last weekend have called out “unresolved” issues, and Niantic had to issue an apology and extend the event due to delays.
