If you can think of possibly the most arduous, and the most boring way to play Pokemon Go, then that’s almost certainly what this player is attempting to do.

Pokemon Go player attempting Level 40 without catches or battles

A Pokemon Go player by the name of PrestyRS has shared a post on Reddit, with the comment, “This guy is going for lvl 40 by catching 0 Pokemon, 0 battles, 0 stops spun, etc. His only form of XP is opening gifts.”

Other Pokemon Go players are being supportive in the comments, though many are questioning why a person would do this. One person comments, “Damn… taking one of the most boring and tedious parts of this game and making it the only part of the game.”

One person has broken down the daunting math in the comments, saying, “Only 19’225’100 XP to go, without counting unlocking friendship bonuses, or other stuff like lucky eggs or XP events that’s about 96’000 gifts… but with multiple friend bonuses + lucky eggs it can be done much faster.”

There’s plenty of support in the comments, with one comment adding, “It’s really cool to see some players try something different, whether it’s playing without picking a team or things like this. I tip my hat to that. And if he’s interested in more friends, I would be open to adding him.”

It’s heartwarming to see the Pokemon Go community rally around such a unique challenge, and who knows what other players might come up with next.
