Mega Ampharos is a tough Mega Raid opponent to beat in Pokemon Go, but with the correct counters and movesets, any trainer can succeed in taking the Electric/Dragon-type Pokemon down.
For trainers looking for a real challenge in Pokemon Go, there’s nothing better than taking on Mega Pokemon in Raids. While these incredibly powerful creatures will require multiple high-level players to take down, the rewards are certainly worth it.
Mega Ampharos won’t go down without a fight. However, with the correct counters and movesets, you’ll stand a great chance of coming out on top. So, here they are.
Mega Ampharos weaknesses in Pokemon Go
Mega Amparos is a dual Electric/Dragon-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak against Dragon, Fairy, Ground, and Ice-type attacks, so selecting a team that can wield those types of moves is the best way to secure a win.
On the other hand, this strong creature has many resistances you might want to avoid, including Fire, Flying, Grass, Steel, Water, and Electric.

However, just like every other Mega Evolution in Niantic’s mobile game, you can’t catch Mega Ampharos. Instead, you’ll have to fight and defeat Mega Ampharos in a Mega Raid battle for a chance to catch its regular form. Then, you must gather the required amount of Mega Energy to trigger this special form for a limited time.
The first time you Mega Evolve Ampharos, you’ll require 200 Mega Energy. Then, the cost will drop to 40, 20, and finally 10. Besides Mega Raids, players can gather such resource by completing Special or Field Research tasks or by setting a previously Mega Evolved Ampharos as their Buddy and walking around.
Mega Ampharos CP in Pokemon Go
As with every Raid Boss in the game, the CP Mega Ampharos has during a Mega Raid battle won’t be the same once you manage to catch its regular form. Plus, certain types of weather can increase such CP.
Raid Boss CP | 43,282 |
CP range once captured | 2332 – 2426 |
Rainy/Windy weather CP range | 2915 – 3032 |
Field and Special Research CP range | 1749 – 1819 |
Mega Ampharos max CP (Level 50) | 4799 |
Can Mega Ampharos be Shiny?
Yes, Mega Ampharos can be Shiny in Pokemon Go and players can increase their chances of finding one by challenging this Mega Raid boss multiple times.
Shiny Mega Ampharos can be recognized by its pink body, which is usually a bright yellow, and the blue spheres on its forehead and tail. This look makes the cute Pokemon even cutter, so it’s no surprise that many users want this special version for their collections.
However, if you cannot find a Shiny Mega Ampharos, a regular Shiny Ampharos will do the trick once you gather the required Mega Energy to Mega Evolve it.
